Role Overview

As a Fire Surveyor at Jensen Hughes, you will provide vital technical support for our fire engineering and surveying teams serving clients across the UK and Ireland. Responsibilities include conducting onsite fire safety inspections during construction and operational phases, external wall surveys, fire stopping and compartmentation evaluations, fire door inspections, and occasional fire risk assessments. Reporting directly to the Lead Surveyor and Divisional Director, you will play a key role in supporting our fire safety services.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform surveys and produce technical reports on active and passive fire protection systems.
• Assess compliance with Irish fire safety laws and standards relevant to various building types, such as TGDB, BS 9991, and BS 9999.
• Maintain and update the technical knowledge base for passive fire protection.
• Conduct site inspections throughout construction phases to identify issues concerning approved Fire Safety Certificate designs as per inspection plans.
• Deliver timely technical reports identifying construction deficiencies.
• Evaluate contractor responses on raised issues until resolutions are achieved.
• Assist with inspections for licensed premises relating to liquor licensing applications.
• Carry out external facade assessments aligned with industry standards.
• Provide third-party oversight for fire stopping and fire compartmentation installations.
• Conduct visual surveys of fire doors.
• Manage your own client portfolio and strive to exceed expectations.
• Deliver in-house continuing professional development (CPD) presentations within your expertise.
• Stay current with industry guidance, product literature, and share insights within the team as part of continuous improvement.
• Regular travel to client sites for surveys and meetings is required, including possible overnight stays.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Possession of a full Irish driving licence and use of a personal vehicle.
• Fundamental understanding of fire safety design and guidelines for various building types.
• Preferred but not essential experience in intrusive external wall surveys on diverse buildings such as high-rise residential, offices, retail complexes, and historic structures.
• Desired experience in fire compartmentation surveys and advising contractors based on manufacturer specifications.
• Proficient in authoring technical reports using digital tools and Microsoft Word based on site inspection data.
• Capable of working independently and managing workload effectively.
• Willingness to enhance skillset by leveraging team resources and expertise.
• Basic knowledge of fire risk assessment processes and a general grasp of risks in the built environment is advantageous.
• General familiarity with construction methods, fire performance of external materials, and cavity barrier installations.
• Knowledge of internal passive fire protection products including fire testing procedures and manufacturer installation guidance.
• Experience advising and managing contractors on refurbishment projects is beneficial.
