Job description
About the Role
Fire engineering is more than meeting compliance; it's about designing safe, practical solutions for real-world applications. We invite applications for a Fire Engineer role to join our design team, with opportunities based in our Manchester, London, or Liverpool offices. Fire engineers engage from project inception, collaborating with architects, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to develop tailored fire strategies.
This position offers exposure to a diverse range of projects including Formula 1 venues, heritage museums, university campuses, and complex historic residences. The role involves creating fire strategies that exceed regulatory demands by applying sound engineering judgment to craft practical, constructible solutions suitable for each project.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of fire strategies across varied projects.
- Perform fire engineering analyses, calculations, and technical evaluations.
- Produce precise and well-structured technical reports and documentation.
- Collaborate closely with architects, design teams, clients, and consultants to guide design decisions.
- Participate in project meetings, confidently engaging in technical discussions.
- Assist in ensuring projects meet schedule and budget requirements.
- Develop an integrated understanding of fire engineering within broader design and delivery contexts.
- Enhance technical expertise and professional skills within a consultancy setting.
Candidate Profile
- Background in fire engineering or a closely related STEM field.
- Ability to apply engineering principles and analytical skills to practical challenges.
- Preference for involvement in holistic projects rather than isolated technical tasks.
- Adopts a practical, solution-oriented approach to fire engineering problems.
- Strong communication skills with confidence working in collaborative design teams.
- Motivated to learn, grow, and assume greater responsibilities.
Qualifications and Preferences
- Relevant degree in Fire Engineering or another STEM discipline.
- Familiarity with UK fire safety design standards such as BS 9991, BS 9999, and Approved Document B, including practical application experience.
- Interest in pursuing professional registration with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or a similar body.
- Committed to building a career in fire engineering consultancy.
