Job Overview

The role of Finishing Operative is essential in converting printed items into polished, professional outputs using a variety of finishing methods such as cutting, laminating, binding, and folding. A core responsibility includes producing high-quality books with saddle stitching machinery. The shift runs from noon to 8 PM, and compensation is between £25,000 and £27,000 annually, dependent on experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform multiple finishing operations including cutting, binding, laminating, and folding to complete printed materials.
• Carry out meticulous quality inspections on finished products to ensure adherence to customer standards.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot finishing machinery, ensuring efficient and proper functionality.
• Organize and manage workflow to meet production timelines and deliver orders promptly.
• Prepare printed materials for finishing, including proper handling and organization.
• Set up saddle stitchers per job requirements, adjusting settings such as paper size, fold types, and trim dimensions.
• Load raw materials into machines ensuring correct alignment and registration for quality output.
• Monitor the machines throughout production runs to verify quality compliance and troubleshoot issues like jams or misfeeds.
• Conduct routine machine maintenance to sustain optimal operation.
• Work closely with team leaders to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Adhere to safety standards and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly workspace.

Requirements

• Experience operating saddle stitch machines, preferably Duplo I-Saddle and Horizon models.
• Excellent attention to detail with a strong dedication to producing superior quality products.
• Good collaborative skills for effective teamwork.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve finishing process problems efficiently.
• Adaptability to shifting priorities during work hours.
• Strong mechanical skills and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Capability to work productively in a dynamic production environment.
• Willingness to work varying shifts and overtime when necessary.
• Physically fit to lift loads up to 20kg.
