Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Finance Director to join a growing business transitioning from R&D to commercial production. This role offers a unique chance to take full ownership of the finance function during a pivotal growth phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the finance function, managing all financial aspects of the business including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and compliance.
- Collaborate closely with the founder, board members, and investors to shape budgets, commercial strategies, and funding decisions.
- Prepare detailed board and investor reports, improving financial visibility as revenue and production scale.
- Engage directly with the finance systems, primarily Xero, to manage day-to-day financial operations and enhance processes.
- Manage and build relationships with external accountants and partners, supporting matters such as R&D tax credits.
- Develop and implement financial infrastructure to support rapid scaling, including automating reporting and forecasting tools, with interest in tools like Fathom.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience working in an SME environment, owning the entire finance function rather than isolated areas.
- Background as a Finance Director, Head of Finance, or Financial Controller ready to advance, ideally with hands-on experience in finance operations.
- Experience in engineering, manufacturing, technology, or R&D-driven businesses is advantageous, particularly involvement in transitioning from development to commercial scale.
- Comfortable working closely with a small team (15-20 employees), balancing strategic oversight with detailed financial management.
- Familiarity with financial software such as Xero and enthusiasm for leveraging technology and automation in finance.
Work Conditions and Benefits
- Part-time role with a 4-day working week.
- Hybrid working arrangement with 2 days required onsite in Nottingham.
- Competitive salary range from 70,000 to 90,000, dependent on experience.
- Standard pension scheme and mobile phone provision.
- Opportunity for equity participation in the company.
Additional Information
The business is poised for significant growth with 4 million to 5 million in existing orders over the next six months and plans for considerable expansion and investment. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who thrives on organizing, building systems from the ground up, and becoming a key leadership team member during an exciting scale-up phase.
