Position Overview

ActewAGL seeks a skilled and commercially aware Financial Controller for its Retail division to join the leadership team. Reporting directly to the Group Manager of Commercial Services Retail, this role is key to ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting strategic business decisions, and delivering insights that drive performance and growth. The role merges technical accounting proficiency with business partnering, process enhancement, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure precise and compliant financial reporting for Retail in line with Australian Accounting Standards and company policies.
  • Oversee month-end closure, maintain balance sheet reconciliations, and safeguard the general ledger's accuracy.
  • Analyze revenue streams, margin trends, and cost structures to highlight business risks and opportunities.
  • Coordinate monthly Business Performance Reporting updates.
  • Manage year-end audits and contribute to statutory financial report preparation.
  • Advise on technical accounting matters relating to strategic projects, product offerings, and business initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams including Retail Finance, Planning & Analysis, Billing, Treasury, and other business areas.
  • Drive initiatives to automate and optimize financial processes and controls.
  • Support budgeting exercises, financial forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Lead and develop the Retail Finance team, fostering high performance and collaboration.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a finance leader with robust technical accounting knowledge, commercial insight, and a solutions-oriented mindset.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Formal tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related field.
  • Professional accounting designation such as CA or CPA (or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in senior financial or management accounting capacities.
  • Deep understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and technical accounting principles.
  • Track record of enhancing financial processes while ensuring rigorous governance and controls.
  • Advanced skills in financial analysis and modelling.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Oracle Financial Suite or similar ERP platforms.
  • Demonstrated leadership in cultivating high-performing finance teams.
  • Ability to build influential relationships and effectively engage stakeholders across complex organizational structures.

Compensation and Benefits

This full-time, ongoing role offers a salary starting at $151,928 annually plus 15% superannuation.
