About TWIGZ
TWIGZ is an expanding Canadian snack company aiming to become a top pretzel brand throughout North America. As the company scales operations in Canada and the U.S., a robust finance team and infrastructure are being developed to support growth.
Position Overview
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Financial Controller will oversee daily accounting operations and the entire financial reporting cycle. This hands-on role requires strong accounting expertise with a proactive approach to understanding the business drivers behind financial data. The Controller will play a key role in establishing processes, controls, and building the finance team to support the company's next growth phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures ensuring timely, accurate financial statements.
- Administer the general ledger, chart of accounts, and oversee accounts payable/receivable alongside cash management.
- Review reconciliations and ensure proper accounting treatments are applied.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports for the CFO and leadership team.
- Liaise with external auditors and accountants for financial statement preparation and reporting compliance.
- Lead inventory and cost accounting related to the manufacturing process, including overseeing inventory accounting, valuation, reserves, and product costing.
- Participate actively in the NetSuite manufacturing implementation and serve as an ongoing super-user.
- Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain to enhance inventory accuracy and analyze manufacturing costs and variances.
- Implement and reinforce accounting policies, internal controls, and streamline finance processes for efficiency and accuracy.
- Drive automation opportunities within finance processes and optimize the use of finance systems such as NetSuite.
- Monitor cash flow, accounts receivable collections, accounts payable obligations, and working capital improvements.
- Partner with CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and provide financial insights to support operational decision-making.
- Develop key performance indicators and operational reports in collaboration with sales, operations, and supply chain teams.
- Lead and grow the accounting team by defining roles, addressing skills gaps, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold a CPA designation.
- At least five years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, including leadership at senior or controller levels.
- Strong proficiency in technical accounting and preparation of financial reports.
- Experience with inventory and manufacturing accounting is essential.
- Solid knowledge of internal controls, accounting processes, and ERP systems; experience with NetSuite is advantageous.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Exemplary analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
Preferred Mindset
- Comfortable with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach.
- Adaptable in a fast-paced, scaling environment.
- Decisive even with incomplete information.
- Capable of balancing detailed work with a broader business perspective.
- Proactive in building and improving financial processes rather than maintaining the status quo.
- Strong owner mentality with accountability for outcomes.
- Willing to challenge processes constructively and collaborate across departments.
Success Metrics
Within the first 90 days, the Controller will have gained credibility with leadership, assumed ownership of close processes, identified critical control gaps, and established clear priorities. Over 6 to 12 months, the individual will have optimized close procedures, enhanced financial reporting accuracy, reinforced accounting controls, improved inventory accounting, provided greater working capital insights, and expanded the finance team's capacity to meet growth demands.
Why Choose TWIGZ?
This role represents a significant opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing Canadian consumer brand. The Controller will influence the financial infrastructure shaping TWIGZ’s future success as it expands across North America by working closely with executive leadership and building a scalable finance operation.
