Financial Controller

About the Role

We are representing a well-established and expanding company based in Trim, County Meath, operating within civil engineering, earthworks, plant hire, haulage, and quarry products sectors. The organisation seeks a skilled and commercially-minded Financial Controller to lead the finance function, reporting directly to the Managing Director. This role forms a vital part of the senior management team, providing leadership across numerous projects and divisions, with significant autonomy and visibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, detailed budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
• Create financial performance reports and KPI analyses for senior leadership.
• Track profitability across multiple contracts and overall business operations.
• Review project cost reports, work-in-progress schedules, and contract valuations.
• Manage cash flow alongside banking relationships and handle working capital requirements.
• Ensure proper compliance with VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, RCT, and other Revenue filings.
• Maintain and uphold strong financial governance, controls, and reporting systems.
• Oversee weekly and monthly payroll processing.
• Supervise finance and administrative teams.
• Deliver commercial analyses to support investment decisions and strategic growth.
• Collaborate with operational and commercial departments to enhance business performance.
• Liaise effectively with external auditors, accountants, and other professional advisers.

Qualifications and Skills

• Qualified accountant status such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 10 years experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance capacity.
• Strong expertise in financial reporting, budget preparation, and forecasting.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Irish taxation laws and statutory reporting requirements.
• Proven leadership abilities combined with strong analytical skills and stakeholder management.
• Commercially focused with a proactive and hands-on approach.
• Experience in construction, civil engineering, quarrying, haulage, or plant hire sectors is advantageous.
• Familiarity with project accounting, work-in-progress reporting, and contract costing is beneficial.
