Overview

Come join Hilton in Auckland as a Finance Manager, playing a crucial role to ensure smooth operations of the Finance Department at DoubleTree Auckland, Albert Street. This position focuses on effective account management, comprehensive reporting, and maintaining vendor and interdepartmental relations to optimize hotel profitability. The role also supports senior leadership by delivering financial insights and ensuring strict adherence to Hilton’s finance policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate accounting procedures and systems to prepare monthly financial reports and statements.
  • Execute month-end closing activities and generate required management/finance reports.
  • Continuously improve financial accounting practices for efficiency and impact.
  • Collaborate with General Manager and executive team to ensure strategies align with operational needs.
  • Adhere to Hilton policies and maximize Balanced Scorecard performance.
  • Review vendor contracts and manage related projects.
  • Lead monthly finance update meetings with hotel leadership.
  • Reconcile all general ledger asset and liability accounts to reflect accurate hotel financials.
  • Analyze departmental expenses for proper coding and recordings.
  • Maintain current and precise financial records and post journal vouchers timely.
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring thorough revenue capture and implementation of corrective measures.
  • Assist department heads in improving financial literacy and provide pertinent financial data.
  • Oversee purchase orders, allowances, and entertainment vouchers for compliance and necessity.
  • Manage permits, licenses, leases, and contracts impacting financial status responsibly.
  • Supervise onsite Finance Team and Purchasing staff, ensuring daily activities are efficient and accurate.
  • Provide mentorship, cross-training, and skills development for finance team members.
  • Facilitate team member selection, manage leave coverage, and conduct performance appraisals.
  • Partner with senior management to establish accurate budgeting, forecasting, and regular financial review cycles.
  • Optimize finance department IT systems, ensuring security and backup processes are maintained in cooperation with IT Manager.
  • Assist in capital investment planning, evaluating projects for return optimization, and ensuring compliance with Hilton capital policies.
  • Build and maintain honest, professional relationships with suppliers, owners, and customers, ensuring service quality and ethical standards.
  • Maintain workplace health and safety by following policies, reporting hazards, participating in audits, and emergency readiness.

Qualifications and Experience Needed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a Finance Manager role or related position, preferably in hotel or hospitality sectors.
  • Strong background in commercial financial management.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and influencing skills with flexibility to adapt to diverse work scenarios.
  • Competent in managing teams, coaching and training others effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize accounting workflows to meet monthly deadlines.
  • Advanced computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel and banking systems including Navision, Birchstreet, DocMatrix, OnQ, and Agylisis.
  • Comprehensive understanding of hotel accounting standards, procedures, and internal control mechanisms.
