Field Operator Pest Animals - Masterton

Role Overview

We seek a dedicated Field Operator to join our Pest Animals team based at our Masterton office on a permanent full-time basis. In this role, you will execute a diverse array of pest animal management tasks including aerial and ground control activities utilizing traps, firearms, and toxins across backcountry, rural, and urban settings.

Key Responsibilities

The position involves extensive fieldwork on foot, motorbikes, quads, and driving utes to maintain pest control devices such as traps and bait stations. This requires a readiness to work in all weather conditions and the skill to navigate challenging terrain using two-wheeled motorbikes. You will have the opportunity to work in unique and remote parts of the Greater Wellington rural area and occasionally work overtime or overnight as part of a work crew.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Team-oriented with a flexible mindset and willingness to support colleagues.
• Competent in riding off-road two-wheel motorbikes.
• Physically robust to traverse bush and farmland carrying full gear in all weather conditions.
• Proactive communicator with a positive, can-do attitude.
• Possession of a restricted or full driver's license, including manual vehicle operation.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills with some proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of pest animal control targeting possums or mustelids is advantageous but not essential.
• Ability to obtain a Controlled Substance License and firearms license, including passing Police background checks.
• Willingness and capacity to complete industry-specific training and obtain certifications.
• Proficiency in navigation, map reading, and use of GPS and GIS tools.
• Availability for occasional overnight, night-time shooting, and weekend work.
• Completion of pre-employment medical assessments.

Remuneration for this role ranges from $63,402 to $95,103 annually, dependent on experience, with a midpoint of $79,253. The organization is a Living Wage Accredited Employer.
