Team Overview

The International Limerick Failure Analysis (FA) team, part of the Global Quality and Failure Analysis group, supports new product and technology advancement at ADI Ireland by defining failure analysis processes to pinpoint failure mechanisms and resolve root causes. This team leads failure analysis and characterization for cutting-edge projects globally.

Role Summary

An opening exists for a Failure Analysis Materials Lab Technician within the Quality Group, focusing on supporting FA equipment and new product development. This role collaborates closely with internal teams, managing material analysis and characterization cycles for ICs and novel material devices through diverse failure analysis tools and techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage FA materials lab service requests efficiently.
  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment (fault localisation, SEM/FIB, preparation and inspection tools), including vendor coordination to ensure operational uptime.
  • Perform 2D/3D X-Ray analyses.
  • Conduct mechanical polishing cross-sectioning of silicon/ICs and packages.
  • Execute chemical wet-bench IC decapsulation and operate laser decapsulation systems.
  • Carry out SEM microscopy and elemental (EDX) analyses.
  • Use Dual Beam and Plasma FIB systems for silicon/IC cross-sectioning.
  • Perform FIB circuit edits on development silicon.
  • Conduct STEM/TEM/EDX microscopy analyses.
  • Utilize Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) for material inspection.
  • Generate detailed reports on analyses and coordinate equipment calibrations.
  • Develop innovative methodologies for analyzing and inspecting emerging devices and materials.
  • Collaborate with global FA materials teams to support critical projects.
  • Mentor and advise lab users on IC and materials characterization and analysis.
  • Champion continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, 6S, operational excellence, and problem-solving initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BSc/BEng, NFQ level 7/8) in Electronic Engineering, Physics/Applied Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry or related fields; industry experience is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude combined with hands-on skills; prior semiconductor or materials analysis experience is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational prowess and communication skills with the ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work within structured processes.
  • Adaptability to shifting priorities and eagerness to acquire new skills in a development environment.
  • Capability to manage concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Energetic self-starter with a team-oriented mindset.
  • Comprehensive training will be provided upon onboarding.
