Job Overview

Are you ready to take responsibility for a newly developing site? Lend your expertise in technical facility operations at Axolabs and ensure that our new Berlin production site operates safely, compliantly, and efficiently. Join our mission: Science for a Safer World.

As Facility Manager, you will oversee the technical and infrastructural operations of the new cGMP production facility for nucleic acid therapeutics in Berlin-Marzahn. You will bear operational responsibility for a facility requiring approval under the German Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) and will help shape the operational organization from the ground up.

Working within Engineering & Maintenance, you will act as the primary liaison connecting management, staff, occupational safety, and IT with landlords, authorities, and service providers. You will have real influence, as processes, service structures, and operational concepts are not predetermined and you are expected to define them.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize operational, maintenance, and repair approaches for the property and technical building equipment.
• Drive the structural and technical advancement of the site, aligning with operational needs, legal regulations, and LGC Group's sustainability strategy.
• Manage the facility management budget, including costs related to operations, maintenance, and investments.
• Select external service providers, negotiate service and maintenance contracts, and continuously evaluate performance and costs.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations such as the Operational Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV), BImSchG, regional building codes, fire safety, and traffic safety obligations.
• Be responsible for the site’s security, emergency, and access control concepts.
• Monitor energy and media consumption, report to management, and implement efficiency measures.

Qualifications

• Completed technical degree (e.g., mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, facility or building technology) or equivalent qualifications such as technician or master craftsman.
• Several years of experience in facility management or technical building operations, ideally within research, laboratory, or production environments.
• Experience managing external service providers and leading technical teams professionally.
• Solid knowledge of operator obligations and relevant legal frameworks.
• Familiarity with building management and/or process control systems as well as ERP and CAFM systems.
• Confident in negotiations and engagement with service providers and authorities, capable of managing multiple concurrent projects effectively.
• Fluent in German and English, both oral and written.

Advantages

• Experience in regulated environments such as GMP, cleanroom, or laboratory infrastructure is beneficial.
• Knowledge of energy management systems, ideally ISO 50001 certified, is preferred.
