Overview
Join the Detroit Pistons' dynamic team dedicated to uniting the city through basketball and fostering community impact. We invite a senior facilities leader to spearhead our capital projects and facility enhancements across NBA, WNBA, G League, community, and corporate venues.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive capital construction projects from conception to completion, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and contract administration to ensure timely and quality delivery within budget.
- Formulate long-term capital improvement plans that support organizational goals and future expansion.
- Oversee renovations, expansions, tenant improvements, and modernizations across all facilities.
- Manage facility assets such as courts, athletic equipment, FF&E, and infrastructure, developing strategic replacement plans to maintain safety and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with senior leadership to develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring financial performance and identifying efficiency enhancements.
- Ensure all facilities comply with NBA, WNBA, G League, ADA, and regulatory standards; lead league inspections and implement evolving requirements.
- Act as the primary liaison for facility matters among executive leadership and multiple departments including Basketball Operations, Finance, HR, Marketing, Community Relations, Corporate Partnerships, and Event Operations.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and municipal entities to support facility projects and operations.
- Strategically oversee facility scheduling to balance construction, maintenance, events, practices, and rentals, anticipating risks and minimizing disruptions.
- Contribute to organizational growth efforts including WNBA expansion and emergency response planning, serving as a facilities leader during critical incidents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, or a related field, or comparable experience.
- At least eight years of progressive leadership in facilities management, capital planning, construction management, or large-scale project delivery.
- Proven track record managing multi-million-dollar capital projects from inception to successful completion.
- Strong financial skills with experience in operating and capital budget development.
- Excellent organizational, project management, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial building systems, construction methods, life safety codes, ADA standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience using enterprise project management and construction platforms such as Procore, Smartsheet, or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Capability to manage various high-priority projects simultaneously while maintaining detailed oversight.
Preferred Experience
- Background in professional sports facilities, entertainment venues, collegiate athletics, healthcare, or hospitality sectors.
- Familiarity with NBA, WNBA, and G League facility standards.
- Experience managing multiple facilities across various locations.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk extensively within facilities and access mechanical rooms and construction sites.
- Capability to lift and transport items up to 25 pounds.
- Comfort working indoors and outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel as necessary to support projects, league meetings, and team activities.
- Availability for emergency response outside regular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
