About the Role

This senior role requires an expert Java Spring Boot Developer with over 12 years of experience in software engineering, including at least 8 years specializing in designing and building enterprise-level Java and Spring Boot solutions. The position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and involves leading the architecture, design, development, and optimization of backend applications and distributed systems for large-scale enterprises. The successful candidate will work on secure, scalable, and high-performance backend platforms while mentoring teams and establishing engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain high-performance backend systems using Java versions 17 and 21+ with Spring Boot 3.x.
• Architect scalable and resilient microservices and distributed systems with an emphasis on availability and performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration challenges involving REST, SOAP, APIs, WSDL, and XML communication between systems.
• Implement enterprise integration patterns and backend service connectivity.
• Profile and enhance Java applications focusing on JVM tuning, memory management, garbage collection techniques like G1GC and ZGC, concurrency, and caching strategies.
• Design event-driven systems leveraging technologies such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS Kinesis.
• Utilize architecture patterns like CQRS, Event Sourcing, and the Transactional Outbox pattern strategically.
• Build secure application frameworks using Spring Security, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and centralized secrets management tools.
• Work extensively with Spring Cloud, Spring Data, JPA/Hibernate, and reactive programming with Spring WebFlux.
• Optimize relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL for performance and scalability.
• Work with NoSQL and caching solutions including MongoDB, Cassandra, and Redis.
• Manage database query optimization, connection pooling, sharding, and overall scalability of database systems.
• Oversee Java application dependencies, library management, configurations, version upgrades, and packaging.
• Create reusable components, libraries, and custom Spring Boot starters for enterprise usage.
• Develop and enforce coding best practices, architecture guidelines, and reusable design patterns.
• Lead architecture, technical design, and code reviews to ensure quality and consistency.
• Diagnose and fix complex production, integration, and performance issues.
• Advise on architecture decisions including monolithic versus microservices and synchronous versus asynchronous communication approaches.
• Provide technical mentorship to mid-level and senior backend engineers.
• Collaborate closely with architecture, infrastructure, security, product, and business teams throughout solution development.
• Effectively communicate architecture decisions, potential risks, and trade-offs to senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Expertise Required

• Mastery of Java 17 and 21+
• Advanced skills with Spring Boot 3.x and supporting frameworks like Spring Cloud, Spring Data, JPA, Hibernate, Spring Security, and Spring WebFlux
• Deep understanding of microservices and distributed system architecture
• Strong experience with REST APIs, SOAP, WSDL, and XML for integration
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, and AWS Kinesis
• Familiarity with CQRS, Event Sourcing, and Transactional Outbox patterns
• Expertise in JVM tuning, Java concurrency (including Fork/Join and Virtual Threads/Project Loom), memory management, and garbage collection techniques
• Proficiency in relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL technologies (MongoDB, Cassandra), as well as caching tools such as Redis
• Competence in database query optimization, connection pooling, sharding, and scaling
• Knowledge of security protocols including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and secrets management solutions like HashiCorp Vault
• Experience with WebSphere Application Server (WAS)
• Strong grasp of software architecture principles, enterprise design patterns, and application dependency management

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline
• Minimum 12 years of software engineering experience
• At least 8 years dedicated to architecting and developing enterprise-scale Spring Boot solutions
• Proven background in senior roles such as Senior Java Developer, Java Technical Lead, Backend Architect, or similar positions
• Extensive experience delivering complex Java and microservices-based enterprise applications
• Demonstrated ability in troubleshooting and optimizing high-throughput, low-latency applications
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including architecture, infrastructure, security, business, and product teams
• Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, stakeholder management, and mentorship abilities

Preferred Skills

• Experience with PHP and Flutter
• Track record in building reusable Spring Boot starters, frameworks, or shared enterprise libraries
