About the Role

The Northern Territory Department of Corrections is recruiting full-time experienced Correctional Officers to join their teams in locations including Darwin, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, and Katherine. This position involves ongoing and fixed-term appointments offering a competitive remuneration package ranging from $108,308 to $118,829 inclusive of superannuation and allowances. The base salary ranges from $69,074 to $75,784.

This role offers a market-leading salary, opportunities for overtime, up to seven weeks of recreational leave per year, balanced working patterns with thirteen shifts over 28 days, and two weeks of intensive fast-track training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, monitor, and manage prisoner activities to ensure their safety and security.
  • Implement appropriate security measures to maintain a safe environment for prisoners and staff.
  • Conduct prisoner escorts and respond effectively to emergencies within the facility.
  • For officers possessing Trade Certificates, supervise and train prisoners in Correctional Services Industries enabling skill development in manufacturing and services.

Requirements and Eligibility

  • Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or hold Australian permanent residency.
  • Minimum of two years’ recent experience as a Correctional Officer within the past two years.
  • Hold at least a Certificate III in Correctional Practice or an equivalent qualification.
  • Possess strong communication, organisational skills, and the ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments.

Applicants holding a Certificate III can expect a salary package between $108,308 and $118,829, which includes a 40% consolidated allowance and 12% superannuation. Those with a Certificate IV commence at $75,784 base salary plus allowances and superannuation, totaling $118,829 remuneration package.
