Job description

Role Overview

The Executive Protection Officer provides confidential, skilled security services to VIPs, executives, dignitaries, and other high-profile individuals. This role entails performing threat assessments, devising protection plans, offering close protection during various activities, managing secure transportation, and responding to emergencies with minimal interference to the principal’s routine.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough security and threat assessments for individuals, residences, offices, event sites, hotels, and travel locations.
  • Create and execute protection strategies, security protocols, contingency plans, and emergency response measures.
  • Perform advance evaluations of venues, travel routes, entry and exit points, parking areas, accommodations, and event spaces.
  • Monitor environments continuously, detect suspicious activities, unauthorized access, and potential security threats.
  • Provide close protection during meetings, appearances, conferences, corporate and social events, and travel.
  • Coordinate secure transportation logistics, including route planning, vehicle positioning, and arrival/departure procedures.
  • Maintain discreet communication with protection teams, drivers, security personnel, venue managers, and law enforcement.
  • Manage access controls and verify authorized individuals when necessary.
  • React effectively to security incidents, emergencies, medical needs, evacuations, and dynamic threat conditions.
  • Support evacuation, relocation, and business continuity protocols.
  • Document security activities via logs, incident reports, threat assessments, and operational records.
  • Protect confidential information related to clients, schedules, travel, residences, families, and security operations.
  • Oversee domestic and international travel security requirements.
  • Stay informed about changes in security environments at local, regional, and international levels impacting principals.
  • Maintain and check communications, protective gear, emergency resources, navigation devices, and other security tools.
  • Collaborate with corporate security, intelligence units, event security, residential security teams, and third-party providers.
  • Participate in security briefings, drills, first-aid training, fitness routines, and ongoing professional development.
  • Utilize technology such as GPS, CCTV, access control, digital monitoring platforms, AI tools, and security analytics to enhance protection measures.
  • Review security incidents to recommend procedure improvements.
  • Uphold high standards of discretion, professionalism, preparedness, and client service at all times.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Preferred diploma or bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Military Studies, Emergency Management, or similar fields.
  • Training in executive protection, close protection, personal security, or protective security techniques preferred.
  • Expertise in threat evaluation, risk management, situational awareness, access control, and security planning.
  • Excellent skills in observation, clear communication, quick decision-making, and problem resolution.
  • Good physical condition with stamina, coordination, alertness, and readiness for demanding environments.
  • Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and focus under pressure or rapidly changing situations.
  • Knowledge of first aid, CPR, emergency protocols, evacuation, and basic medical assistance desirable.
  • Familiarity with security technologies including secure communication, GPS, CCTV, access control systems, emergency tools, and monitoring software.
  • Understanding of digital threat analysis, AI applications, risk assessment platforms, and modern security technologies is an asset.
  • Strong ethics concerning confidentiality, privacy, and sensitive information handling.
  • Coordination skills with multiple stakeholders, including security teams, drivers, law enforcement, event personnel, household staff, and external agencies.
  • Organizational ability to manage advance preparation, scheduling, documentation, reporting, and briefings.
  • Valid driver’s license and training in protective/defensive driving advantageous for transportation roles.
  • Additional certifications in close protection, executive protection, emergency response, security, or first aid considered beneficial.
  • Knowledge of travel, residential, event, corporate, and international security issues helpful.
  • High integrity, discretion, discipline, professionalism, reliability, and accountability.
  • Dedication to continuous learning about security threats, protective technology, risk management, and best practices in executive protection.
