Job description
About the Role
The appointed candidate will undertake initial assessments of ethics approval applications submitted by researchers to the National University of Singapore's Institutional Review Board (NUS-IRB). They will ensure that approved research adheres strictly to Singapore legislation, including but not limited to the Human Biomedical Research Act, Medicines Act, Personal Data Protection Act, Penal Code, and Health Products Act, alongside relevant regulations and NUS policies such as the Data Management Plan (DMP) and Research Data Management Plan (RDMP).
They will provide secretariat assistance to the NUS-IRB, supporting ethical evaluations, approval procedures, and follow-ups such as renewal processes for all human research conducted at NUS.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out preliminary ethics reviews of NUS research projects to verify compliance with national laws and NUS guidelines.
- Serve as a resource for researchers, study teams, and administrative personnel by responding to queries concerning IRB applications.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of institutional policies, procedures, and guidelines for human research protection.
- Provide administrative support related to research compliance and ethics review within the Institutional Review Board and other NUS departments.
- Manage IRB study documentation in line with NUS policies protecting data security and confidentiality.
- Ensure all stakeholders’ expectations and review timelines are met effectively.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of at least a bachelor’s degree in Science, Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Liberal Arts, or a related discipline from a recognized institution. Candidates without prior experience but with a keen interest in research ethics and human welfare protection are encouraged to apply.
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal abilities to engage with cross-functional teams and institutional partners effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Detail-oriented, resourceful, able to manage pressure well, quick learner.
- Experience in research administration, research ethics, research compliance, or regulatory affairs is advantageous but not mandatory.
