Position Overview

This role involves preparing full or partial contract proposal estimates across various disciplines by analyzing project plans and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze proposal specifications and drawings to define project scope and estimate content requirements.
• Calculate thorough takeoffs to develop detailed discipline estimates.
• Maintain organized documentation supporting estimates, including up-to-date supplier pricing via direct contacts and catalogs.
• Evaluate design alternatives and recommend cost-effective, quality solutions considering material availability.
• Incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity reports into unit and labor hour calculations.
• Lead and coordinate estimating efforts for assigned bids or projects.
• Engage with owners, architects/engineers, and contractors providing cost and engineering feasibility data.
• Manage awarded contracts by estimating change orders, extra work, credit items, and material procurement as needed.
• Collaborate with senior management to allocate project responsibilities.
• Oversee the Virginia office estimating processes, ensuring consistent procedures, methods, and standards.
• Coordinate bid documentation, including bid forms, bonds, and insurances between corporate and field offices.
• Maintain project lead tracking and prequalification status with state, city, and county agencies.
• Solicit subcontractors and suppliers to support project bids and participate in outreach events to identify opportunities.
• Provide detailed concrete, structural, earthwork, and piling estimates.
• Offer technical guidance to estimating personnel for assigned bids.
• Keep comprehensive backup documentation for estimate validation.
• Track and manage subcontractor databases fostering positive vendor relationships.

Skills and Knowledge Required

• Proficiency in estimating diverse construction projects with leadership in coordinating estimates.
• Competency in pricing concrete and earthwork projects.
• Skilled in effective communication with subcontractors via phone regarding detailed scopes.
• Strong organizational and communication abilities.
• Experience using spreadsheets and other computer software.
• Excellent analytical and multitasking capabilities.
• Adaptability to dynamic work demands with keen attention to detail.
• Fluent written and verbal English communication skills.

Working Hours

• Standard work hours are typically 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, though schedules may adjust based on project requirements or safety supervision needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and/or 4 to 7 years of experience in estimating, cost control, or engineering within construction.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and personnel simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.

Compensation

Salary range is from $85,000 to $135,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, education, certifications, and seniority.
