About the Role and Company
This role is with a holdings company specializing in construction materials including aggregate, steel, and concrete. We are currently hiring an experienced Estimator to join our construction team. This position is full-time and based onsite in Hesperia, CA.
Role Summary
The Estimator will be accountable for predicting costs, materials, labor, and timelines for various construction projects. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced setting while managing multiple projects and maintains excellent attention to detail and professionalism. Utilizing data analytics to minimize project expenses and maximize value while ensuring client satisfaction will be part of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze blueprints and supporting documentation to estimate required time, cost, materials, and workforce.
- Produce detailed cost estimates by examining plans and specifications, including quantity take-offs for all cost factors.
- Evaluate the cost efficiency of products, projects, or services and monitor actual costs versus bids throughout project progression.
- Utilize Tekla and Tekla Structural Designer software for cost estimation and bidding.
- Compile and maintain a database of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors for resource management.
- Coordinate with clients, suppliers, and contractors to support ongoing construction activities.
- Conduct risk assessments to guide project execution strategies.
- Prepare comparative reports and analytics contrasting estimated costs with actual expenditures.
- Assist in proposal drafting and presenting to clients.
- Employ Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, to generate documentation and reports.
- Negotiate contracts to balance cost efficiency and quality standards.
- Collaborate closely with project management to oversee project budgets and timeframes.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of construction estimating experience, ideally focused on structural steel.
- Proficiency in Tekla and Tekla Structural Designer applications.
- Deep understanding of fabrication, materials, construction methods, and associated equipment.
- Demonstrated success in project bidding, cost management, and budgeting processes.
- Experience in Material Take Off (MTO) and cost tracking procedures.
- Contract negotiation and client relationship management abilities.
- Strong analytical, risk evaluation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal capabilities.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects while meeting deadlines with great detail orientation.
