Job description

About the Role

The Estimation Engineer will be responsible for creating precise cost estimates and preparing technical-commercial proposals for electrical control panels, marshalling boxes, transformer auxiliary systems, and other related products offered by Pradeep Sales & Service Private Limited. The role includes reviewing enquiry requirements, quantifying materials and costs, recognizing potential risks and exclusions, and aiding competitive quoting and smooth order handover within established technical and commercial standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine tenders, drawings, specifications, scope of supply, and submission deadlines, noting missing details to seek clarifications prior to finalizing estimates.
  • Develop material quantity take-offs and Bills of Materials derived from technical drawings and specifications, collaborating with Engineering to confirm component specifications and compliance.
  • Estimate costs including materials, externally procured items, fabrication, assembly, wiring, engineering, testing, inspection, packaging, freight, and onsite services where applicable.
  • Gather supplier and subcontractor quotations through authorized channels; methodically compare technical scopes, pricing, discounts, delivery times, validity, freight, and payment conditions.
  • Apply standardized labor rates, overheads, contingency factors, and profit margins; assess applicable taxes, duties, currency risks, and escalation assumptions carefully to avoid cost duplication.
  • Prepare comprehensive costing sheets and proposals outlining scope, delivery timelines, validity periods, exclusions, deviations, and commercial terms; secure necessary reviews and approvals before issuance.
  • Evaluate cost implications of features such as transformer cooling, OLTC control, monitoring devices, alarms, trips, interlocks, and auxiliary circuits with Engineering assistance.
  • Work with Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, Production, and Quality teams to verify feasibility, manufacturing effort, testing requirements, and delivery commitments.
  • Update estimates as needed due to clarifications or scope changes, assess pricing impacts, and maintain detailed traceability linking enquiry revisions, supplier quotes, costing documents, and offers.
  • Assist negotiation processes with detailed cost analyses and approved alternatives; upon order confirmation, transfer finalized scope, cost baseline, exclusions, and commitments to execution teams.
  • Compare estimated costs against actual outcomes with concerned teams to investigate discrepancies and update cost data repositories accordingly.
  • Maintain confidentiality of pricing and client information; ensure systematic documentation of estimates, organized work environment, and proper use of assigned equipment.

Authority

  • Request required technical clarifications, supplier quotations, and internal cost inputs essential for complete estimations.
  • Propose cost-effective alternatives and corrections aligned with technical compliance and subject to necessary approvals.
  • Hold estimates for review and escalate issues such as incomplete scope, unreliable pricing, calculation errors, or unapproved deviations before releasing quotations.
  • Verify costing calculations within the delegated authority; however, final pricing, discounts, commercial terms, and quotation issuance require approval from authorized personnel.
  • No authority to commit orders, approve substitutions or customer deviations, or accept contractual obligations beyond delegated limits.

Skills and Competencies

  • Expertise in interpreting electrical schematics, general arrangement drawings, technical specifications, Bills of Materials, and tender requirements.
  • Knowledge of components and processes related to control panels, marshalling boxes, transformer auxiliary systems, panel fabrication, wiring, and testing.
  • Proficiency in quantity take-offs, material and labor cost estimation, rate analysis, overhead allocation, and margin computations.
  • Ability to evaluate supplier quotations with an understanding of their technical scope, pricing, payment, delivery, warranty, freight, tax, and validity terms.
  • Competence in using MS Excel and MS Office; familiarity with ERP or estimation software and CAD viewers is beneficial.
  • Strong skills in maintaining accurate documentation, revision control, and adherence to applicable standards including IS/IEC codes and ISO 9001 procedures related to estimation.
  • Analytical mindset, meticulous attention to detail, effective coordination and communication abilities, confidentiality, and the capacity to meet deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Preferred experience of 2 to 6 years in estimation, costing or tendering for electrical control panels, transformer auxiliary panels, marshalling boxes, or similar industrial electrical systems.
  • Candidates with lesser experience may be considered based on demonstrated skill in drawing interpretation, quantity take-offs, and costing.
  • Experience handling supplier quotations, preparing technical-commercial offers, tender submissions, and manufacturing cost analyses will be advantageous.
  • Completion of required induction, product training, and competency assessments before independently managing estimates; must adhere to delegated review and approval protocols.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Timely completion of estimates, quotations, and revisions according to agreed deadlines.
  • Accuracy in quantity calculation, cost estimates, and comprehensive scope coverage as verified by reviews and omission analyses.
  • Monitoring variances between estimated and actual costs for comparable scopes, documenting reasons, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensuring complete traceability of cost inputs, supplier quotations, assumptions, revisions, and approvals.
  • Prompt resolution of clarifications and thorough handover of orders to execution teams.
  • Compliance with approved pricing structures and authority limits; consistent updating of material prices and standard costing data.
