Job description

About the Role

Platinum Pacific Partners, a Melbourne-based family office, is seeking its inaugural dedicated Equity Analyst to join their science-driven, global equities strategy. The role focuses on a highly concentrated portfolio emphasizing hardware, semiconductors, robotics, and the physical sciences sectors. This position works directly alongside the Portfolio Manager and demands a comprehensive ownership of research, idea generation, and enhancement of analytic tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate and develop proprietary investment theses to support buying and selling decisions in the portfolio.
  • Conduct end-to-end idea generation by analyzing business models, competitive landscapes, and enduring market trends.
  • Perform financial modeling, valuation, and projection of company key performance indicators, establishing independent price targets.
  • Forge and maintain relationships with industry experts and management teams relevant to the covered sectors.
  • Attend prominent sector conferences and contribute insights gained to research outputs.
  • Adopt a systems-oriented approach to building and refining research tools underpinning analytical processes.
  • Participate in managing the portfolio’s options and hedging strategies over time.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong academic background in technical disciplines such as engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematics.
  • Approximately two years of relevant experience in investment research relating to technology firms or in related areas such as equity research, hedge funds, private equity, investment banking, or technical and quantitative roles.
  • Robust knowledge of at least one technological sector, ideally hardware, semiconductors, or robotics, emphasizing technical acuity over current sector coverage.
  • Competency in coding and a genuine enthusiasm for enhancing research tools.
  • Some exposure to options and hedging strategies is advantageous.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong self-motivation, capable of taking initiative and owning responsibilities from the outset.
  • Excellent communication skills enabling clear explanation of complex technical hypotheses to non-specialist audiences.

This role represents a unique opportunity to join a focused family office environment with a science-led investment philosophy and systematic risk management. Candidates interested in contributing to a high-conviction portfolio with broad sector exposure within innovative industries are encouraged to consider this position in Melbourne.
