About the Role
The City of Greater Sudbury seeks a dedicated Equipment Pool Coordinator for its Roads Operations section within the Linear Infrastructure Services division of Community Infrastructure. This permanent position, based at the Frobisher Depot, operates under the CUPE 4705 Outside Unit and entails bi-weekly 80-hour shifts with potential shift work. The coordinator supports the Citywide Foreperson by managing equipment rentals, leases, and ensuring compliance with City purchasing bylaws.
Key Objectives and Duties
- Manage the City's centralized equipment pool to optimize availability, maintenance, and cost efficiency prior to considering external rentals.
- Operate and maintain storage, issuance, and receipt of hand tools, machinery, personal protective equipment, and safety gear.
- Inspect, test, and perform minor repairs on equipment and small engines while coordinating major repairs.
- Supervise rental activities ensuring vendor compliance with tender specifications and City purchasing policies.
- Negotiate rental and contractor rates under supervision to serve the City's best interest.
- Coordinate timely delivery of equipment and supplies to users and vendors.
- Inspect rental vehicles upon receipt and return.
- Conduct background and qualification checks on rental and contract vendors.
- Maintain electronic inventories and monitor material and equipment stock levels.
- Execute clerical responsibilities including filing, invoice processing, and maintaining various operational reports and logs.
- Ensure warehouse cleanliness and organization.
- Adhere to City Health and Safety policies as well as applicable provincial legislation.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned, recognizing the scope of the position is broad but not all-inclusive.
Qualifications
- Completion of secondary education (Grade 12).
- Minimum three years’ experience in a directly related role.
- Knowledgeable about mechanical equipment specifications, functionality, and procurement procedures.
- Competent in maintaining accurate work records and interpreting equipment service manuals.
- Proficient with computer applications including email and spreadsheets for data management.
- Demonstrated skills in public interaction and conflict resolution.
- Physical capability to safely operate vehicles, holding a valid Class G driver's licence with a clean driving record.
- Reliable, professional, and accountable in fulfilling job responsibilities.
Additional Information
This position is also available as a developmental opportunity for candidates close to meeting full qualifications. The developmental wage is $32.21 per hour, increasing upon completion of qualifications. The standard pay rate is $33.90 per hour.
The start date will be determined after the selection process has concluded.
