Job Overview
The Environmental Services Worker I role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming atmosphere by performing a variety of cleaning, floor care, and waste disposal duties within assigned hospital areas. The position plays a crucial role in ensuring hygiene standards, safety protocols, and infection control measures are observed, thus enhancing the environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect designated spaces such as patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, elevators, staircases, locker rooms, and work areas, adhering strictly to infection control guidelines.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors, furniture, and equipment using appropriate cleaning tools and methods.
- Perform maintenance on hard and carpeted floors, including stripping, refinishing, and upholstery treatment in line with departmental standards.
- Wash walls, ceilings, windows, woodwork, door panels, and other surfaces to maintain overall cleanliness.
- Replenish supplies in specified areas while monitoring inventory levels and reporting shortages to maintain steady availability.
- Handle and dispose of trash and biohazardous waste safely, following safety protocols and HIPAA regulations.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment properly, reporting any malfunctions or repair needs promptly.
- Provide assistance with minor maintenance tasks and report significant facility issues to the relevant department.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned and maintain dependable attendance.
- Comply fully with all organizational policies and standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preferred experience of 1-2 years in cleaning or environmental services.
- Proficiency in proper cleaning techniques, equipment, and cleaning agents.
- Knowledge and application of infection control and safety standards.
- Competent in operating cleaning machinery both safely and effectively.
- Detail-oriented with excellent time management abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Physical capability to perform repetitive motions and lift or move objects as necessary.
Additional State-Specific Requirements
- For Indiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina: Completion of an assigned SAMA course within 30 days of employment is mandatory.
