Job Responsibilities

• Design and execute comprehensive environmental research strategies in line with organizational goals.
• Lead and manage multidisciplinary research initiatives from inception to finalization.
• Identify new environmental concerns and set priorities for scientific investigations.
• Prepare research proposals, define methodologies, budgets, timelines, and oversee execution.
• Coordinate fieldwork, surveys, sampling schemes, laboratory processes, and continuous monitoring efforts.
• Manage data collection, ensure data quality, perform statistical analyses, and interpret results.
• Conduct research on biodiversity, ecosystems, climate change, water and air quality, soil, marine environments, and pollution.
• Supervise baseline environmental studies and ongoing monitoring programs.
• Assess environmental impacts related to projects, developments, and operations.
• Develop scientific models, frameworks for research, indicators, and monitoring methods.
• Oversee internal teams including researchers, scientists, technicians, consultants, and laboratories as well as partners external to the organization.
• Collaborate with universities, governmental bodies, research institutions, NGOs, and industry stakeholders.
• Forge partnerships and collaborative research efforts on national and international scales.
• Produce detailed technical reports, scientific papers, presentations, and summaries for management.
• Translate complex scientific data into actionable recommendations usable by policymakers and managers.
• Track emerging environmental trends and technological advancements relevant to research.
• Contribute to policy development, sustainability initiatives, conservation efforts, and strategic plans.
• Ensure compliance with UAE environmental laws, permit requirements, ethical standards, and scientific norms.
• Manage allocation of budgets, grants, procurement, equipment, and project resources.
• Establish performance indicators to evaluate project quality and scientific outcomes.
• Identify innovative technologies like remote sensing, GIS, environmental sensors, drones, AI, and data analytics for research enhancement.
• Promote knowledge exchange, uphold scientific rigor, and foster continual improvements within the organization.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a bachelor's degree in fields such as Environmental Science, Ecology, Marine Science, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Conservation Science, or related disciplines.
• Have between 5 and 10+ years of professional experience in environmental research, conservation, sustainability, or related areas.
• Demonstrate proven capability managing environmental research projects and diverse scientific teams.
• Extensive knowledge of environmental monitoring, field research protocols, data analysis, and scientific methodologies.
• Experience designing research studies, sampling plans, monitoring programs, and conducting technical evaluations.
• Strong analytical skills and expertise in scientific report preparation.
• Track record of managing research budgets, external consultants, laboratories, and partnerships.
• Excellent leadership, project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Effective communicator capable of presenting scientific findings to varied audiences, including non-specialists.
• Familiarity with the UAE's unique environmental context and regulatory framework is highly preferred.

Preferred Credentials

• Advanced degrees such as a master's or PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, Marine Biology, Conservation, Climate Science, Environmental Management, or related fields.
• Background in managing peer-reviewed research, publications, grants, and collaborative programs.
• Proficiency with GIS, remote sensing, environmental modeling, statistical tools, and environmental databases.
• Experience using tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, R, Python, or other analytical platforms.
• Research experience focusing on marine/coastal ecosystems, desert ecology, biodiversity, water resources, climate impact, and pollution.
• Knowledge about UAE and GCC environmental policies, standards, and compliance expectations.
• Experience collaborating with UAE governmental environmental agencies, universities, research centers, or conservation institutions.
• Familiarity with environmental impact assessments, ecological surveys, monitoring, and sustainability studies.
• Understanding of international environmental frameworks, ESG principles, and sustainability standards.
• Experience directing regional research projects throughout the UAE and GCC.
• Work experience in arid, coastal, or marine ecosystem environments is an asset.
• Fluency in English is mandatory; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
