About the Project
Join a pivotal marine infrastructure initiative in New Zealand as part of the Waitohi Ferry Redevelopment Project, based in Picton. This project aims to develop a new ferry wharf, linkspan, and terminal interface enhancements, reinforcing the key transport link between the North and South Islands.
Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Environmental Manager to provide leadership in environmental and sustainability efforts throughout this highly significant project, reporting directly to the Project Director. The role is fixed-term until 2029 and focuses on compliance, environmental excellence, and sustainable project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee environmental management and ensure compliance across the project lifecycle.
- Lead the development and continual improvement of environmental management systems.
- Manage consent requirements, conduct environmental monitoring, audits, and reporting.
- Develop and maintain constructive relationships with clients, regulators, iwi groups, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate ecological and specialized environmental initiatives.
- Lead investigations of environmental incidents and implement risk management strategies.
- Champion sustainability programs and environmental best practices within project operations.
- Provide mentorship and professional growth opportunities for environmental specialists and team members.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possess a tertiary degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Planning, Ecology, or a related field.
- Extensive experience managing environmental aspects within construction, infrastructure, or comparable sectors.
- Demonstrated capability in managing consent compliance and mitigating environmental risks.
- Proven track record in leading teams and coordinating external consultants and contractors.
- Exceptional skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
- A pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to influence project teams toward successful environmental outcomes.
