Job description
About the Role
We seek an entry-level Data Scientist, preferably with a Master's or PhD and minimal industrial experience. The key focus is on solid fundamental knowledge and the drive to develop professionally. Instead of just producing high accuracy metrics, we value curiosity about what metrics may be disguising.
Job Responsibilities
The data you'll encounter is primarily tabular with occasional text, time series, signal, or image data. It is often messy, incomplete, biased unexpectedly, and limited in size, unlike the standardized datasets familiar from academic settings. The challenge lies in comprehending data well enough to frame meaningful questions, rather than simply building models.
You will collaborate with seasoned colleagues on customer-related projects, performing substantial analysis from the outset and gradually assuming greater responsibility. You will learn to partner with customers to define problems, justify results, and communicate findings to a non-technical audience. Importantly, we are deeply committed to resolving customer issues thoroughly.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a degree in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or related fields; a PhD is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong statistical understanding, including knowledge of confidence intervals, p-values, hypothesis testing assumptions, and potential pitfalls.
- Healthy skepticism toward results; willingness to investigate unexpectedly favorable numbers.
- Habitual exploratory data analysis prior to modeling, including plotting and questioning data quality and anomalies.
- Proficiency in Python and commonly used libraries like pandas, scikit-learn, and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow). Familiarity with cloud platforms is a bonus; AWS training will be provided.
- Capability to clearly and honestly articulate methodologies and reasoning, including admitting uncertainties.
- Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to incorporate feedback quickly.
- Fluency in English is required.
