Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician specializing in packaging to act as the subject matter expert on our advanced automated packaging machinery. This role involves ownership of critical manufacturing equipment to enhance machine performance, reliability, efficiency, and promote continuous improvements within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the technical expert for high-speed automated packaging equipment.
• Monitor and analyze equipment performance to enhance Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reliability, and reduce waste.
• Deliver hands-on technical assistance for production and maintenance, quickly resolving equipment issues.
• Lead investigations into recurring faults, applying sustainable corrective and preventive measures.
• Utilize insights from equipment breakdowns and quality problems to improve maintenance protocols and machine efficiency.
• Plan and oversee repairs, upgrades, and equipment improvement projects including managing spare parts.
• Collaborate with suppliers and equipment manufacturers to optimize equipment and resolve technical challenges.
• Assist in quality investigations and implement solutions to avoid recurrent defects and customer complaints.
• Support the training and development of engineering technicians, apprentices, and new staff.
• Engage in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and equipment optimizations site-wide.
• Maintain precise technical documentation, maintenance logs, and performance metrics.
• Promote a culture of safety by ensuring equipment and workspaces adhere to strict safety and housekeeping standards.

They take full ownership to see tasks through from problem identification to resolution and thrive in tightly coordinated manufacturing settings where quality, reliability, and efficiency are paramount.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a National Craft Certificate, Engineering Technician qualification, or a relevant third-level degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, or related Engineering discipline.
• Experience working in high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in automated manufacturing machinery.
• Demonstrated practical skills in troubleshooting and fault-finding on equipment.
• Strong analytical skills with a track record of identifying root causes and implementing long-lasting solutions.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficient computer skills including engineering or maintenance software.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Previous work supporting automated packaging machinery.
• Familiarity with Schubert packaging machines or similar high-speed automated packaging technologies.
• Experience with PLC programming, automation, sensors, robotics, vision systems, and industrial controls.
• Background in Medical Device, Pharmaceutical, Food Manufacturing, or regulated production sectors.
• Knowledge and application of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
