About the Role
Amazon Web Services Infrastructure Services oversees the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all global AWS infrastructure, ensuring continuous and reliable access to advanced cloud innovation tools for customers worldwide. Joining as a Data Centre Engineering Operations Technician in Auckland presents an opportunity to support critical data centre facilities including low-voltage electrical lineups, diesel generators, HVAC, and fire suppression systems. This role entails managing daily operations and maintenance of essential infrastructure, supervising colocation and specialist vendors, responding promptly to incidents, and becoming a subject matter expert facility resource.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee site operations including coordination with colocation vendors and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to AWS standards, implemented procedures, and local regulations.
- Monitor and manage both routine and corrective maintenance for critical systems such as switch gear, generators, UPS, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
- Set performance benchmarks, analyze data, and generate reports related to facility infrastructure operations and maintenance.
- Design and execute projects to enhance facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability.
Additional Role Requirements
- Physical demands may include bending, lifting, stretching, and safely navigating ladders, stairs, and gangways.
- Participate in a rostered on-call schedule to provide 24/7 support, subject to adjustment based on business needs.
- Proficient in IT with experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle is required due to site locations.

Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in a data center or other critical environment.
- At least 5 years of experience with Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Experience managing vendors effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Over 3 years of experience in construction or project management.
- Electrical or Mechanical Journeyman License.
- Possession of an operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent.
- Additional experience in construction or project management.
