The Engineering Manager for Web Experiences will be pivotal in crafting the user interfaces that enable developers to interact with, understand, and trust these AI-driven processes.
Role Summary
This leadership position involves overseeing the comprehensive user experience where customers engage with CircleCI's platform. Success in this role directly influences customer retention and business growth by improving adoption and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, onboard, and retain a diverse group of top-performing engineers, establishing an environment of psychological safety that encourages innovation, candid feedback, and accountability.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and structured support through regular one-on-one discussions, goal setting, and continuous feedback, fostering career development and inclusivity.
- Drive the delivery of incremental, high-quality product improvements in collaboration with Design, Product, and Data teams, balancing rapid progression with maintainability.
- Engage actively with stakeholders and customers to align engineering initiatives with business objectives by gathering actionable insights from real-world product usage.
- Promote transparency and efficiency in processes through close collaboration with other engineering teams and organizational leadership.
- Champion AI-driven engineering methodologies by adopting AI tools that accelerate development workflows, ensuring high standards in frontend performance, reliability, and architecture.
- Utilize observability tools like Honeycomb and Datadog to base technical decisions on operational data rather than guesswork.
- Ensure documentation of architectural decisions with rigorous review to maintain quality and consistency across the team.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in managing engineering teams, ideally within fast-paced startup environments, fostering trust, cohesion, and accountability.
- Proficient in modern software engineering practices and agile methodologies, focusing on iterative and experimental delivery approaches.
- Strong advocate for AI integration in software engineering, with clear perspectives on the benefits and limitations of AI tools in accelerating development.
- Technical aptitude sufficient to gain engineers' trust, challenge architectural decisions, mentor on technical directions, and resolve impasses effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills, promoting openness, listening to diverse opinions, and leading with transparency.
- Instinctive product sense, prioritizing developer needs and guiding the team towards impactful user-centric solutions.
- Committed to continuous learning and team improvement, thriving in a culture that values feedback, experimentation, and blameless post-mortems.
- Experience leading distributed remote teams, fostering motivation and productivity in a virtual environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in managing frontend-focused full-stack teams with experience in technologies like React and TypeScript, able to evaluate frontend quality and craftsmanship effectively.
Compensation and Inclusivity
