Position Overview
This role is tailored for a technically proficient Engineering Manager who values hands-on involvement with both people development and technical/product decisions. AI technologies play a pivotal role, enhancing customer-facing functionalities and optimizing engineering practices.
Team and Responsibilities
You will lead a compact, cross-functional squad comprising two senior engineers, a Product Manager, and a Designer. The role involves shaping software architecture and collaborating intimately with Product and Design teams from concept through to production.

Ideal candidates are seasoned technical leaders who enjoy mentoring engineers via consistent coaching and development planning. You thrive in ambiguous product scenarios, excel at clear communication, and actively contribute to coding, architectural decisions, and code reviews.
Required Expertise
- Advanced full-stack engineering skills at Staff or Principal level, specializing in architecture and system design.
- Demonstrated experience leading and coaching engineering teams through feedback and structured career development.
- Expertise in co-developing customer-centric products or features collaboratively with Product and Design from inception to launch.
- Proven success delivering AI-powered products or features in production environments.
- Background in product engineering within collaborative settings.
- Excellent communication and balanced judgement on customer requirements, delivery constraints, and technical robustness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in startups or scaling organizations.
- Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
- Experience creating agent-based or AI-augmented user interfaces.
- Familiarity with enhancing engineering workflows through pragmatic AI tool applications.
Compensation and Work Conditions
- Annual base salary range: AUD 195,000 - 200,000 plus superannuation.
- Equity options with a four-year vesting period.
- Preferred location: Melbourne. Sydney candidates may also be considered.
- Work arrangement: Hybrid model with two days per week in the office, including Thursdays.
- Employment type: Permanent, full-time.
