About the Role
Flow Traders is expanding leadership within its Research Engineering team and is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager. The Research Engineering group collaborates closely with quantitative analysts to develop trading models and maintain their research platform. As the firm scales, this role is vital to enhancing the quality of engineering leadership which directly impacts team growth, talent retention, and delivery excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the team roadmap by managing prioritization, planning, and sequencing in alignment with organizational objectives.
- Guide and develop engineers through comprehensive career planning, promotion pathways, coaching, and ongoing performance management.
- Lead recruitment efforts including headcount planning and resource allocation to support the team’s strategic objectives and company priorities.
- Foster a positive and productive team environment by proactively managing culture, morale, addressing conflicts constructively and early.
- Maintain a disciplined leadership rhythm with consistent one-on-one meetings, timely feedback, and team-building initiatives.
- Convert technical and business needs into clear, actionable delivery plans while identifying inter-team dependencies and potential risks early.
- Serve as the conduit between Engineering, Trading, and Quantitative teams to design and deploy new products.
- Enhance delivery predictability by monitoring progress, managing risks and scope trade-offs, and providing transparent status updates to stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvements in delivery processes and velocity to raise team efficiency.
- Ensure team alignment with broader company goals by collaborating closely with Technical Leads and Staff Engineers on research and technical strategy.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Exceptional people management capabilities encompassing coaching, feedback delivery, conflict resolution, and cultivating a thriving engineering culture.
- Proven expertise in project management including roadmap development, work sequencing, risk management, and maintaining delivery predictability in dynamic environments.
- A technical or research foundation strong enough to establish credibility with engineering teams and actively participate in technical discussions.
- Documented success in leading, growing, and managing teams of applied researchers and software engineers.
- Experience delivering applied research projects by effectively managing scope, quality, and deadlines.
- Sound judgment in talent acquisition and professional development decisions.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including managing cross-functional teams such as Trading and Quantitative departments.
