Team Focus - Engagements to Payments

The Engagements to Payments (E2P) team oversees the complete payment lifecycle for accounting firms, including proposals, engagement letters, time and budget tracking, invoicing, online payments, collections, and synchronization with accounting platforms such as Xero and QuickBooks Online. This team's work directly influences customer revenue, emphasizing the importance of quality and data integrity.

Vision and Upcoming Priorities

  • Expand E2P capabilities to enable firms to manage the entire engagement-to-payment process within Karbon.
  • Support large firms with 20 to over 1,000 seats by accommodating multiple entities, business units, and detailed permissions.
  • Transition core billing interfaces from Ember to React and refactor the monolithic architecture into independently deployable services.
  • Achieve Continuous Delivery practices within the team, enhancing deployment efficiency.

Role Overview

Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will lead a team of eight frontend and backend engineers. While not a hands-on coder, you must possess a strong technical foundation to influence design choices, evaluate trade-offs, and gain the team's confidence.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, and nurture team members with clear expectations and ongoing feedback.
  • Elevate technical standards by enforcing clear system boundaries, robust designs, and high operational benchmarks.
  • Enhance delivery speed and quality by minimizing lead times and failure rates, keeping customer needs central.
  • Ensure system reliability through defining SLOs, enhancing observability, maintaining system health, and conducting blameless incident retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with Product and Tech Leads to balance delivery of new features, feature improvements, bug fixes, and maintenance tasks.
  • Foster team autonomy through transparent goals and accountability, while building strong inter-team relationships.

Technical Environment

  • Frontend technologies include React and TypeScript, transitioning from Ember.
  • Backend stack features .NET technologies such as C#, .NET Core, Web API, alongside SQL Server.
  • Utilizes distributed systems concepts including messaging, event-driven architectures, and consistency mechanisms.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience as a senior individual contributor before advancing to management roles.
  • Minimum two years serving as an Engineering Manager.
  • Proven success in boosting quality and delivery pace via technical and process innovations.
  • Strong grasp of distributed systems and maintaining data integrity.
  • Effective communication skills across different locations and time zones.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with billing or payment systems.
  • Familiarity with guiding teams toward Continuous Delivery methodologies.
  • Track record in overseeing large-scale technical migrations.

Why Join Karbon?

  • Enjoy four weeks of annual leave in addition to five special "Karbon Days" each year.
  • Benefit from a flexible work environment.
  • Collaborate with a skilled, high-performing team, encouraging continuous learning.
  • Be part of a fast-growing organization that prioritizes promotion from within.
  • Engage in a diverse, inclusive, and supportive culture fostering professional development and open feedback.
  • Access generous parental leave provisions.
