As an Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for managing your team's personnel, enhancing technical skills, and ensuring effective project delivery. Your role involves understanding the scrum team’s technical efforts and coordinating related tasks to accomplish defined user stories meeting completion criteria. Collaboration is key, working alongside product owners, engineering leads, architects, developers, testers, analysts, data scientists, and other cross-functional personnel. You will contribute to solution design, architecture decisions, innovation initiatives, and offer mentorship and guidance to team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead one or more Scrum teams ensuring software delivery aligns with the definition of done and compliance with software development lifecycle processes and internal standards.
- Guide and support team members through regular feedback, goal setting, mentoring, performance reviews, career development, and help with talent acquisition and retention in partnership with HR and recruitment.
- Create an inclusive, collaborative environment fostering psychological safety and ownership of product development.
- Oversee release coordination and enforce quality standards on the AI Core service by collaborating with QA and data sciences, ensuring releases meet test evidence and AI governance requirements.
- Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, address escalations, and collaborate with Product Owners on backlog management, prioritization, and release scheduling.
- Manage dependencies, risks, and impediments that impact delivery and team productivity proactively.
- Ensure products adhere to quality, security, reliability, maintainability, and performance standards while managing technical debt and platform sustainability.
- Work with architects and technical leads to steer technical direction and improve solution quality through metrics and operational insights.
- Advocate for customer-centric decisions, ensuring teams understand user needs and business values, and assist in handling customer escalations and production issues.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives, promote best practices, and participate in code, design, and test peer reviews.
- Embody and promote FINEOS values, nurturing positive relations with teams, customers, prospects, and partners.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline with over 3 years of practical experience, ideally with enterprise-scale systems.
- Minimum 2 years in a technical leadership or coordination role such as engineering manager.
- Experience conducting performance appraisals and line management duties.
- Background working in Agile environments.
- Proven success delivering enterprise software products or programs.
- Experience managing geographically distributed teams is desirable.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong leadership and negotiation skills focused on achieving results.
- Proven ability to build and manage high-performing teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with scaled Agile frameworks, including SAFe or similar models.
- Comprehensive knowledge of software development and release life cycles.
- Ability to balance competing priorities including delivery, technical debt, and quality improvements using engineering metrics and continuous improvement methods.
- Outstanding collaboration, communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, with a focus on team output rather than individual deliverables.
- Knowledge of AI-specific risks such as non-deterministic results, prompt sensitivity, safety, privacy, bias, and governance is a plus.
Technical Expertise
- Familiarity with modern software engineering practices including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, DevOps, secure coding, and cloud-based deployments.
- Experience with programming languages and frameworks including Java, Python, Node.js/TypeScript, and object-oriented principles with design pattern usage.
- Knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and data formats such as JSON.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases including Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
- Exposure to cloud services like AWS including GenAI offerings (e.g., Bedrock, Textract) and serverless technologies (Lambda, SQS, Step Functions).
