Role Overview
We seek a seasoned Engineering Launch Manager to oversee Plant Vehicle Engineering focused on Interior, Exterior, Seating, and Restraint systems during phases of launch, production ramp-up, and sustained manufacturing. This proactive leadership role connects Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, Program Management, and Vehicle Integration to ensure delivery of safe and high-quality vehicles while accelerating resolution of emerging issues.
Key Duties
- Develop a strong-performing team through coaching, routine feedback, managing performance, succession planning, and fostering career growth.
- Instill a culture emphasizing ownership, accountability, technical discipline, teamwork, and ongoing refinement.
- Sustain team motivation and focus during challenging launch stages by prioritizing clearly, acknowledging achievements, balancing workloads, and offering timely assistance.
- Demonstrate hands-on leadership with a solid work ethic, composed decision-making, and readiness to support the team amid critical builds and production escalations.
- Lead and mentor Plant Vehicle Engineers covering diverse components such as instrument panels, center consoles, door trims, headliners, interior and exterior trim, NVH, seating mechanisms, airbags, seat belts, and occupant restraints.
- Act as the principal engineering escalation contact for launch, production, supplier, and quality-related challenges, including craftsmanship, fit and finish, dimensional integrity, and assembly concerns.
- Own the Immediate Corrective Action (ICA) and Permanent Corrective Action (PCA) processes from containment to root cause validation and sustainable problem resolution.
- Train teams in structured root cause analysis techniques, such as problem definition, data gathering, fault isolation, 5 Why, fishbone diagrams, 8D, FMEA, and corrective action verification.
- Question unsupported conclusions, advocating decisions based on evidence, detailed analysis, and verified validation plans.
- Clarify roles, responsibilities, system ownership, escalation routes, and decision authorities to ensure effective accountability, avoid overlaps, and close cross-functional actions timely.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and program teams to eliminate obstacles affecting safety, vehicle quality, scheduling, costs, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction.
- Establish regular operational routines for monitoring issues, technical escalations, launch preparedness, workload allocation, and leadership reporting.
- Support engineers in troubleshooting while being capable of independently resolving technical problems when necessary.
Key Competencies and Skills
- A strong focus on efficient launch execution, prioritizing urgent issues, clearing blockages, and making timely decisions during demanding build and ramp-up intervals.
- Advanced proficiency in problem-solving methodologies including root cause analysis, containment strategy, corrective action validation, and data-informed decision processes.
- Proven ability to align cross-functional teams comprising Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, Program Management, and Vehicle Integration.
- Effective communication aptitude that simplifies complex technical challenges into clear updates suitable for leadership and stakeholder audiences.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities encompassing coaching, setting clear accountabilities, balancing team workload, and maintaining engagement throughout intense launch phases.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 8 years of experience in automotive engineering, inclusive of leadership or managing people.
- Strong technical expertise in Interiors, Exteriors, Seating, Restraints, Vehicle Integration, Manufacturing, Quality, or Launch Engineering.
- Experience supporting vehicle launch programs, production ramp-ups, manufacturing operations, supplier interfaces, and structured corrective action workflows.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Capacity to collaborate with global teams across North America, Europe, and the Middle East, including flexibility to participate in meetings across time zones, such as early morning or evening sessions with U.S.-based engineering groups.
Compensation and Benefits
