Job description

Programme overview

This is a permanent property role within NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi’s Emerging Professionals Programme. The position is based in Hamilton, Waikato, with the broader programme offering placement options in Auckland, Hamilton, or Wellington and a planned start in February 2027. The starting salary is $69,606.

The programme is designed to stretch, develop, and support early-career professionals. From the outset, participants move across different teams to build wide-ranging experience and make a real contribution to the transport network and the systems that help Aotearoa thrive.

The property stream

The Transport Services group is focused on delivering strong outcomes now while helping create a better future. Property plays a key role in transport projects, with the agency holding a diverse portfolio that includes residential, lifestyle, rural, commercial, and forestry properties. Some of these assets are leased out, while others are acquired and retained for current or future transport work.

The Transport Property Services team provides end-to-end property support to regional property teams. In this stream, you will rotate through teams and learn the core work involved in property acquisition, management, disposal, and survey and legalisation, aligned to business plan requirements and wider agency goals.

About you

You should be working toward, or already have, a bachelor’s degree or higher in Property. You must also have completed your highest qualification within the last two years and by February 2027, and your current or completed degree should show at least a B grade average.

You will need a willingness to build knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi and understand its relevance in the public sector. The organisation also values awareness of Te Ao Māori, te Tiriti, and Tikanga Māori, and it is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion across its work.

Programme benefits

Joining the Emerging Professionals Programme means becoming part of a supportive whānau focused on learning, growth, and wellbeing.

The package includes a 2-year development journey with at least three work rotations matched to your stream, with the programme acting as your base for guidance, development, and support. You will also have access to a strong support network and a wellbeing package that includes five weeks of annual leave, plus other benefits intended to help you do your best work.

Application details

Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand. A CV and cover letter explaining your suitability are required. Applications close on 21 June 2026.
