Job description
Role Overview
As an Emergency Call Taker at South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, you will be the first point of contact for individuals in crisis, handling emergency calls with calmness and compassion. This vital position requires clear thinking under pressure, supporting callers ranging from those facing life-threatening situations to individuals experiencing joyful moments such as childbirth.
Location and Work Conditions
This role is based at the Emergency Operations Centre located in Northern House HQ, Bicester, Oxfordshire. Remote work is not available for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer emergency 999 calls promptly and efficiently.
- Ask pertinent questions to gather necessary details.
- Provide reassurance and support to callers experiencing distress.
- Coordinate swift emergency responses in critical situations.
- Support non-emergency calls, such as assisting new parents.
Candidate Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not provided.
- Compassionate and confident with excellent communication skills.
- Resilient with the ability to maintain emotional awareness throughout shifts.
- A sincere motivation to help others.
- No prior medical experience necessary as training will be provided from October 2026 onwards.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting salary of 13.17 per hour.
- Pay enhancements: 35% uplift on Saturdays and weekday nights (up to 17.78/hr) and 69% uplift on Sundays and bank holidays (up to 22.26/hr).
