Job Overview
The role of EMEA Projects Estimator for Data Centre Solutions Whitespace involves working within a dedicated team to prepare accurate and consistent project cost estimates. This position requires a clear understanding of construction processes and project-specific execution demands, reporting directly to the Senior Estimator or Commercial Lead. The job supports both autonomous work and collaboration within the broader Estimating and Project teams, with provisions for necessary training and resources to ensure effective output.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review tender documentation to confirm sufficiency of information for cost estimation.
- Perform quantity take-offs from project documents.
- Issue enquiries to sub-contractors and suppliers, analyze received quotations objectively.
- Assist in evaluating tender package returns and prepare sub-contractor analysis schedules for adjudication.
- Contribute to analysis regarding fixed price and contingency components for tender settlement review.
- Draft tender settlement documents highlighting net costs, risks, and opportunities.
- Support the preparation and review of Tender Sum Analysis, including cash flow and forecasts.
- Upload tender documentation to PDS System and record meeting outcomes with follow-up amendments.
- Complete client pricing documentation such as Form of Tender, Contract sum analysis, and preliminaries for commercial submissions.
- Identify and address tender gaps, manage clarifications, and maintain estimator notes.
- Integrate late changes and amendments, submit tenders, and manage post-submission follow-ups including leading negotiations.
Decision-Making and Budgetary Control
The role does not hold budgetary control authority unless explicitly authorized by the client or EMEA Project Director.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Commercial awareness and financial literacy with influencing, negotiation, and presentation capabilities.
- Strong surveying experience in Mechanical and Electrical works, with proficiency in estimating software such as Cubit or Buildsoft.
- Up-to-date knowledge of the construction industry, quantity surveying, and commercial methodologies.
- Understanding of data centre project delivery schedules and challenges working within live environments.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in quantity surveying or estimating within construction and at least two years specifically in the data centre sector, including new build and live environment projects.
Qualifications and Aptitude
- Degree-level education preferably in Mechanical or Electrical disciplines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills along with numeracy at business standards.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with professional credibility.
- Ability to handle project variability and demonstrate a high level of organization, attention to detail, and proactivity.
- Results-oriented and comfortable working in a high-pressure project setting.
- Willingness and ability to travel across Europe as necessary.
