Embedded Linux Software Engineer - Research & Development

About the Role

Join Stryker’s R&D team as a permanent Embedded Linux Software Engineer located in Carrigtwohill, Cork. This position focuses on designing and developing embedded Linux-based software solutions that improve patient care worldwide.

Primary Responsibilities

• Write and maintain applications and libraries primarily in C and C++.
• Create user interfaces using the Qt framework.
• Enable communication protocols between embedded hardware components.
• Support integration of software and hardware elements and conduct system-level debugging.
• Perform thorough testing and diagnosis of deployed software applications.

Required and Preferred Skills

• Proficient in C and C++ programming languages.
• Experience with Qt and QML for GUI development.
• Strong familiarity with Linux operating system and embedded environments.
• Working knowledge of debugging and development tools such as GDB, Git, Bash, Shell scripting, Python, and CMake.
• Understanding of hardware communication interfaces and protocols including TCP/IP and USB.
• Experience integrating hardware and software components.
• Knowledge of low-level embedded systems, Yocto Project, and awareness of medical software standards such as IEC 62304 is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Level 8 degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• A passion for solving problems and contributing to meaningful work that changes lives.

Relevant Experience

• Previous roles such as Embedded Software Engineer, Linux Engineer, Firmware Engineer, Embedded Systems Developer, or Real-Time Embedded Engineer align well with this position.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this role in Ireland is €51,000 to €86,000 EUR. Stryker emphasizes transparency in compensation to empower candidates to make informed career choices.
