Job description
About RTÉ Electrical Services Team
RTÉ serves as Ireland's national public service media organisation, maintaining a diverse portfolio of corporate, production, technical, and broadcast facilities. The Property Engineering division is vital in supporting electrical reliability, safety compliance, and operational resilience within live and sensitive broadcast environments, ensuring uninterrupted service.
Role Overview
We are looking for a fully qualified Electrician to become part of RTÉ’s dedicated in-house Electrical Services Team. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to engage with a broad and technically complex estate, including live studios and critical broadcast support systems. The selected individual will receive comprehensive training to master compliance frameworks, specialist electrical systems, and operational protocols.
You will report directly to the Electrical Supervisor, performing electrical maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting across low voltage (LV) electrical systems. Your responsibilities will encompass operational and statutory compliance while maintaining service continuity in critical broadcast and corporate environments.
The role requires working a shift-based roster, specifically a seven-days-in-fourteen pattern, and may involve attendance across all days of the week. Shift timings vary and are remunerated with applicable shift payments atop the base salary.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct planned preventive maintenance, inspections, and reactive repairs across RTÉ's LV electrical infrastructure covering office, production, and broadcast-support settings.
- Ensure the electrical systems’ operational safety, resilience, and regulatory compliance, focusing on essential power distribution, UPS circuits, generator-based power supplies, and monitored electrical systems.
- Perform inspection, testing, fault diagnosis, and verification aligned with ET101/I.S. 10101 Wiring Rules, Safe Electric obligations, and RTÉ’s internal electrical standards.
- Adhere strictly to electrical safety protocols, including permit-to-work, isolation, lock-out/tag-out, hazardous energy control, and change management within live operational environments.
- Support planned outages, system resilience tests, minor upgrades, and enhancement projects, managing coordination to minimize impact on operations.
- Detect and report defects, non-compliance, and any risk indicators identified during maintenance activities through the proper supervisory channels.
- Maintain accurate and timely technical documentation, inspection records, and asset logs to promote compliance and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate effectively with Engineering Managers, Broadcast Operations teams, internal stakeholders, and approved specialist contractors to guarantee safe and efficient delivery of electrical services.
Candidate Requirements
- Certified Electrician holding QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft or National Craft Certificate in Electrical.
- Practical experience with LV electrical systems in industrial, commercial, or highly structured technical environments.
- Sound knowledge of electrical safety practices, isolation methods, and safe work systems.
- Meticulous and safety-conscious approach when working in live environments, with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to function effectively within a structured team setting.
- Possession of a full, clean Class B driving licence or in the process of obtaining one.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in broadcast, datacenter, utility, manufacturing, or similar operationally sensitive environments.
- Familiarity with critical power infrastructure such as UPS systems, standby generators, and essential power distribution, including life-safety electrical systems.
- Exposure to formal permit-to-work, maintenance, or compliance systems.
- Experience with inspection reporting, asset management records, or computerized maintenance management systems.
- Safe Electric Qualified Certifier accreditation.
- Knowledge of medium voltage (MV) systems and coordination processes with authorized personnel and specialist contractors.
- Proficiency with computerised maintenance systems, electrical documentation management, and Microsoft 365 tools such as SharePoint and Power BI.
Training and Development
RTÉ is dedicated to fostering the professional growth of the successful applicant through structured training programs in specialist systems, compliance procedures, and broadcast-support electrical environments where prior direct experience might be limited.
This role provides an excellent platform to join a highly skilled in-house technical team and advance your career within a unique electrical operational context.
Additional Information
The position is offered on a full-time ongoing contract basis at the Craft Operational grade, with an annual gross salary range of €38,399 to €57,479. Employment is contingent upon legal authorization to work in Ireland.
Applications are encouraged from individuals who embrace a positive outlook towards Irish language and culture. RTÉ values diversity and inclusion, welcoming candidates of various backgrounds regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religion, disability status, or other personal attributes.
Reasonable accommodations will be provided upon request during recruitment for candidates with disabilities.
