Role Overview
We seek a highly skilled Electrical Technician to join our maintenance team, ensuring the electrical integrity, reliability, and efficiency of all plant equipment including high-speed packing machinery, refrigeration systems (ammonia experience is advantageous), conveyors, and PLC-controlled processing units. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver with extensive electrical expertise in further processing plants or the FMCG sector.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and preventative electrical maintenance on all plant machinery.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical faults involving AC/DC drivers, motor starters, relays, sensors, and control circuits.
- Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and PLC ladder logic diagrams accurately.
- Install, calibrate, and service electrical components and systems.
- Diagnose and perform minor programming modifications on PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs.
- Manage networked industrial devices and communication protocols effectively.
- Follow strict safety procedures including lockout/tagout, ARC flash, and NFPA 70E compliance.
- Adhere to GMP and food safety standards such as BRC, Halal, and HACCP, ensuring sanitary practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Support electrical aspects of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems under licensed engineers' guidance, focusing on refrigeration control circuits.
- Document maintenance activities, work orders, and parts usage precisely in the CMMS.
- Collaborate closely with mechanics, operators, and other team members to minimize equipment downtime.
Qualifications & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent technical institute qualification.
- Completion of accredited electrical apprenticeship or technical college degree in industrial electricity.
- At least 8-10 years’ industrial electrician or electrical technician experience, including 3 years minimum within further processing plants.
- Proven expertise troubleshooting 480V/3-phase power and 24V DC control circuits.
- Solid hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting and minor programming, alongside VFD management.
- Skilled at reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- Capability to work in demanding environments: cold, wet, noisy areas requiring physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and standing long periods.
Preferred Background
- Experience within food and beverage or further processing plants.
- Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and related electrical controls.
- Familiarity with packaging machinery, including fillers, sealers, vacuum pumps, labellers, inkjet printers, and X-ray equipment.
- Proficiency using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Personal Qualities
- Strong safety mindset focused on personal and team safety.
- Analytical problem solver capable of troubleshooting under pressure.
- Self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently.
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
- Adaptable and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Working Conditions
- Willingness and ability to operate in cold (below 4°C), wet, and noisy environments.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended durations.
- Comfortable working near raw meat products and industrial cleaning chemicals.
- Availability for overtime, weekend work, and rotating on-call shifts.
