Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed internal project estimates by performing accurate take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Participate in estimate planning meetings and assist the preconstruction team as needed.
- Engage in pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits to better understand project scope.
- Review blueprints, specifications, and other project documents to thoroughly comprehend the scope of work.
- Ensure the estimating team has all necessary information; communicate gaps promptly to estimate leadership.
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs) including those from subcontractors, internal sources, and owners as required.
- Collaborate with resources to identify project-specific tax and insurance requirements.
- Compile clarifications into comprehensive documentation for client bid forms and coordinate inclusion with marketing teams.
- Review Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for compliance and alert estimate leadership to any deviations.
- Lead scope of work discussions during estimate reviews ensuring adherence to industry standards, NEC codes, and local regulations.
- Develop and maintain vendor and subcontractor relationships, create and manage bid lists and packages, distribute bid documents, and lead pre-bid meetings as necessary.
- Analyze subcontractor and vendor quotes, lead scope review meetings, and recommend selections based on findings.
- Submit detailed project budgets including scope and specifications to project management teams.
- Partner with project management on subcontractor selections and assist with contractual documentation.
- Contribute to lessons learned during and after projects to improve future estimating accuracy and processes.
- Maintain databases including preferred subcontractors, bid forms, cost history, and estimating data.
- Travel locally and to conferences as needed, up to 20% of the time.
- Potentially supervise other team members.
Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or GED is mandatory.
- At least 5 years of experience in industrial electrical fields is required.
- Proficiency with Accubid (Trimble Estimating) or similar estimating software.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to follow and deliver detailed written and verbal instructions independently.
- Good leadership and management qualities to collaborate and achieve organizational goals.
- Ability to gather and interpret technical information accurately.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Completion of OSHA 10-hour course within the past three years.
- Understanding of owner/engineer requirements, construction materials, market conditions, trade practices, and relevant estimating software preferences such as Beck Destini, Bluebeam, InSite, etc.
- Advanced computer skills with familiarity in Microsoft Office programs.
- Detail-focused, deadline-driven, and highly organized with prioritization skills.
Environmental and Physical Requirements
This position may require travel to various locations with physical abilities including standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and moving weights between 10 to 50 pounds. It requires good hand-eye coordination, dexterity for manipulating equipment, and visual acuity. Frequent activities include sitting, reaching, talking, and hearing.
