Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and oversee Health, Safety, and Environmental (EHS) activities throughout the hotel.
- Propose enhancements to methods, systems, procedures, and safety practices to improve efficiency and promote a safer workplace.
- Create and execute annual EHS strategies, audits, inspections, and awareness initiatives.
- Coordinate EHS efforts with different departments, ensuring timely implementation of action plans.
- Identify potential hazards and implement preventive and corrective solutions.
- Perform routine workplace inspections targeting unsafe acts, conditions, and necessary corrections.
- Ensure all EHS tasks meet professional standards and adhere to hotel policies, legislation, and environmental regulations.
- Complete required checklists and reports on daily, weekly, and monthly bases.
- Respond swiftly to EHS-related incidents and ensure corrective measures are applied.
- Offer guidance and advice on Health, Safety, and Environmental matters to staff and management.
- Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns to maintain a safety-conscious workforce.
- Lead by example to sustain a strong safety culture within the establishment.
- Monitor housekeeping to promptly detect and fix hazards.
- Oversee the proper selection, use, inspection, and upkeep of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including fit-testing where needed.
- Review incident reports, participate in investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain precise records on accidents, near misses, audits, inspections, and related EHS activities.
- Analyze safety statistics and trends to suggest continuous improvements.
- Organize and conduct Health, Safety, and Environmental training programs for employees.
- Perform monthly safety and environmental audits and share findings with relevant teams and management.
- Follow up on audit recommendations to ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
- Support emergency preparedness, drills, and response protocols.
- Assess and assure ergonomic and safety standards in workspaces, equipment, and operational procedures.
- Report and address defective equipment and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Assist in enhancing the hotel’s EHS management system and environmental initiatives like waste management and energy conservation.
- Manage drug testing policies and coordinate related procedures if applicable.
- Participate in EHS committees, meetings, inspections and ensure agreed actions are tracked and executed.
- Develop, review, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, risk assessments, and documentation.
- Encourage proactive hazard reporting among staff.
- Devise practical solutions to challenges ensuring efficiency, safety, and high standards.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by management.
Administrative Duties
- Adhere to hotel standards, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in all tasks.
- Maintain comprehensive EHS documentation including records, statistics, inspection findings, and training logs.
- Regularly submit EHS reports and updates to management.
- Attend scheduled departmental and EHS meetings and trainings.
- Handle EHS matters with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Demonstrate respect and cooperation with colleagues and other departments.
- Maintain professional grooming and a positive, courteous attitude consistently.
- Keep abreast of hotel activities relevant to EHS and pursue continuous professional development in current EHS practices.
- Perform any other administrative duties assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- At least one year of professional experience in an EHS Officer or similar role.
- Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Capability to conduct meticulous inspections, audits, and investigations.
- Experience in developing and implementing EHS initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications such as OHSAS, NEBOSH, or equivalents in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Experience working in the hospitality or hotel sector.
- Advanced skills in EHS management systems and audit procedures.
- Expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
