EHS Officer

Overview

The EHS Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards on construction projects. This position involves preparing essential EHS documentation, conducting risk assessments, training personnel, and monitoring site safety conditions according to international standards such as ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.

Primary Duties

• Develop all essential EHS documentation including EHS plans, emergency response plans, and risk assessments.
• Participate actively in EHS meetings alongside clients and project teams.
• Report any EHS-related concerns to the head office promptly.
• Deliver EHS induction training to newly onboarded workers.
• Perform daily inspections to ensure safety compliance within designated work zones.
• Verify that safe work permits are obtained from clients or main contractors by engineering and supervisory staff before work commences.
• Continually assess site risks and communicate high-risk areas to site engineers and contractors.
• Oversee weekly toolbox talks conducted by engineers to enhance EHS awareness among workers.
• Ensure all personnel wear required protective equipment such as helmets, safety footwear, and coveralls.
• Inspect equipment like ladders and scaffolding to confirm they are in safe and working condition prior to use.
• Maintain healthy and hygienic conditions on site, guaranteeing availability of water, suitable rest areas, adequate lighting, and ventilation.
• Promote proper housekeeping practices on-site to reduce chances of accidents.
• Conduct job-specific EHS analyses especially for high-risk operations to mitigate hazardous scenarios.
• Motivate workers and engineers to adhere to established EHS protocols.
• Lead investigations into incidents or accidents alongside engineers and share findings for preventive measures.
• Provide first-aid or arrange medical assistance in the event of worker injuries.
• Keep comprehensive records related to all EHS activities conducted.
• Manage and update integrated health, safety, and environmental management systems in accordance with ISO standards, including auditing and procedure improvements.
• Administer ongoing EHS training programs for engineers and workers, both on-site and via HR-facilitated sessions.
• Prepare and update environmental management and emergency preparedness plans, coordinating drills and emergency responses.
• Manage external EHS audits and third-party equipment inspections.
• Coordinate occupational health and welfare initiatives and establish EHS conditions within subcontractor contracts.
• Enforce stop-work authority when unsafe practices are observed, fostering a proactive safety culture.
• Conduct monthly project risk management audits and quarterly system audits.
• Provide detailed EHS performance reports to project heads and leadership to inform current safety standings.

Additional Information

Work is generally onsite based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role emphasizes strict adherence to internationally recognized health, safety, and environmental standards to ensure safe and sustainable project execution.
