About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned EHS Advisor to join our Southern Region team based in Christchurch, supporting manufacturing, feed mill, hatchery, and agricultural operations. This role involves a comprehensive focus on Environment, Health, and Safety compliance across a diverse food production and agribusiness environment. You will collaborate closely with operational leaders and frontline staff to enhance capabilities, minimize risks, ensure regulatory adherence, and foster a progressive safety culture within several business units.

Key Duties

  • Offer expert coaching, support, and guidance on EHS matters to operational leaders and employees.
  • Execute EHS audits, workplace inspections, risk assessments, and reviews.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, perform root cause analysis, and manage corrective actions.
  • Deliver training on EHS topics and assist Health & Safety Representatives and site committees.
  • Oversee Environmental Management Plans and ensure adherence to environmental consent requirements.
  • Monitor environmental aspects such as wastewater, stormwater, emissions, waste management, and spill prevention.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and non-compliances, ensuring effective resolution and preventative measures.
  • Maintain detailed records for environmental compliance reporting.
  • Support audits conducted by customers, regulators, and third parties.
  • Drive processes related to risk assessment and Management of Change.
  • Track and report on EHS performance metrics and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with teams across all operations to identify hazards and improve EHS outcomes.
  • Coordinate health monitoring, injury management, and rehabilitation programs; mentor users on the incident reporting system to ensure high-quality reporting and resolution closure.
  • Provide backup support to the Regional EHS Manager as necessary.

Candidate Profile

  • At least three years’ experience as an EHS Advisor or Health & Safety Advisor in a manufacturing setting.
  • Holds the NEBOSH General Certificate or an equivalent recognized Health & Safety qualification.
  • Certified as an ICAM Lead Investigator or possesses a comparable incident investigation credential.
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety laws and practical risk management techniques.
  • Proven experience leading workplace incident inquiries and implementing corrective solutions.
  • Competence in overseeing environmental compliance including waste management, wastewater, stormwater, resource consents, and environmental monitoring.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, feed milling, hatchery, agriculture, or similar high-risk industries.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and reporting skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and EHS management software.
  • Holds a full New Zealand Driver Licence.
  • Registered or working toward registration with NZISM.
  • Diploma-level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or related fields is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability managing environmental compliance in food manufacturing or processing environments is preferred.
