Role Overview
Gloucestershire County Council's Gloucestershire Equipment Loan Service (GELS) invites applications for a full-time Driver Support position based in Hempsted, Gloucester. This integral role supports the care sector by managing transportation, delivery, collection, and maintenance of medical equipment that aids hospital discharges and independence at home. The Driver Support team ensures a smooth logistics operation through vehicle upkeep and movement of equipment across GELS sites.
Primary Duties
- Transport medical equipment between GELS facilities as required.
- Assist with equipment recovery and swapping vehicles.
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks such as fluid top-ups and bulb replacements.
- Clean and inspect vehicles to uphold high standards and aid scheduled maintenance.
- Keep detailed and accurate records using both paper and digital systems.
- Maintain a safe, tidy, and efficient workshop environment.
- Operates independently and collaboratively to meet service demands.
- Adhere to health and safety protocols, contributing to a customer-focused quality service.
- Handle and lift medical equipment safely including bariatric beds, hoists, and mobility aids.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is dependable, motivated, and possesses experience with driving vehicles, along with practical skills in identifying faults and performing basic repairs or maintenance. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage workloads independently are essential.
- Proven experience in driving and safe operation of vehicles.
- Ability to detect vehicle problems and perform basic maintenance or repairs.
- Background in transportation, fleet management, or workshop settings.
- Competence in managing tasks autonomously and prioritizing effectively.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate documentation and following procedures.
- Possession of a full UK driving licence is mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary ranging from £26,403 to £27,694, with a pending 3.3% pay award increasing salary to £27,274 - £28,608 pro rata for part-time hours.

Additional Information
This is a permanent position with no job sharing option and a closing application date of 20th September 2026. The role includes responsibilities for both driving and manual handling of equipment.
