Job description
About Our Company
We are a global organization dedicated to creating transport environments and vehicle interiors that are safe, efficient, comfortable, and functional. Our multidisciplinary teams combine expertise in architecture, interior design, automotive engineering, ergonomics, materials, technology, manufacturing, operations, and user experience to develop modern, driver-centric mobility solutions.
Role Overview
We are searching for an experienced Driver Interior Architecture Manager to lead the design, planning, development, integration, and optimization of driver-focused interiors across vehicles and transportation platforms. This role involves harmonizing interior architecture with ergonomics, human factors, design, engineering, and operational needs to craft environments that enhance safety, usability, visibility, comfort, technology integration, and vehicle performance.
Core Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute strategies for driver interior architecture aligned with vehicle, mobility, safety, and customer experience goals.
- Lead the driver environment design process from initial concepts through detailed design, prototyping, testing, production, and continuous improvement.
- Specify comprehensive requirements concerning ergonomics, usability, visibility, safety, comfort, accessibility, storage, controls, and technology integration.
- Create driver cockpit and cabin concepts tailored to operational needs, vehicle architecture, user profiles, and applications.
- Manage spatial planning of driver seating, controls, displays, instrument panels, consoles, storage, equipment, and access zones.
- Apply ergonomic and human factors principles to optimize posture, reach, visibility, movement, and interactions with vehicle controls.
- Conduct driver task analyses, workflow studies, usability and ergonomic assessments.
- Define sightlines, viewing zones, mirror and camera-display interfaces to enhance driver visibility.
- Coordinate integration of steering controls, pedals, gear selectors, switches, infotainment, communication, and driver-assistance technologies.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure architectural compatibility with vehicle packaging, structure, electrical and thermal systems, and manufacturability.
- Develop interior layouts, technical specifications, design standards, and concepts.
- Organize 2D drawings, 3D models, digital and physical mock-ups, prototypes, and design review sessions.
- Lead interdisciplinary design reviews involving industrial designers, engineers, human factors experts, manufacturing, and other stakeholders.
- Guarantee that interiors provide safe, intuitive interaction between drivers and controls/information systems.
- Coordinate human-machine interface requirements with cross-functional HMI, software, electronics, and digital product teams.
- Integrate displays, instrument clusters, HUDs, sensors, connectivity, navigation, and communications technologies within driver environments.
- Support interior design for a range of vehicle types, including conventional, electric, autonomous, commercial, fleet, specialty, and emerging mobility solutions.
- Assess diverse driver profiles, vehicle operations, environments, and duty cycles to optimize design solutions.
- Incorporate accessibility and inclusive design principles as applicable.
- Oversee decisions related to materials, finishes, colors, trims, surfaces, and components for driver spaces.
- Evaluate material performance considering durability, cleanability, tactile quality, environmental resistance, weight, cost, sustainability, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Manage lighting, acoustic, thermal, ventilation, and environmental-comfort requirements to ensure optimal driver conditions.
- Review component interfaces to identify packaging conflicts, ergonomic risks, visibility constraints, and usability challenges.
- Conduct design-for-manufacturing and assembly reviews with production engineering partners.
- Support prototype development, meticulous fit-and-finish inspections, first-article evaluations, and production validations.
- Coordinate testing of driver interiors under realistic operational conditions, including assessment of vibration, noise, thermal stress, contamination, wear, and durability.
- Validate driver sightlines, control reach, seating positioning, ingress/egress, and overall operator comfort.
- Oversee safety assessments of seating, restraints, controls, impact zones, emergency access, and interior components.
- Ensure all designs comply with vehicle safety, ergonomic, accessibility, material, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with certification and compliance teams to meet applicable automotive and transport standards.
- Manage interior architecture documentation, configuration baselines, design specifications, and requirement changes.
- Standardize reusable design principles and architectural approaches across vehicle programs.
- Lead change management, engineering change control, and technical approval processes.
- Assess design alternatives based on performance, ergonomics, manufacturability, cost, weight, durability, and customer experience.
- Lead value-engineering initiatives while safeguarding safety, functionality, quality, and driver experience.
- Engage procurement and suppliers regarding component sourcing, materials, tooling, prototypes, and production readiness.
- Manage relationships with interior suppliers, design partners, engineering consultants, and specialist vendors.
- Define supplier quality expectations, deliverables, milestones, and acceptance criteria.
- Monitor supplier performance, schedule adherence, design quality, technical issues, and corrective actions.
- Support manufacturing and assembly teams during pilot builds, launch, and production ramp-up.
- Investigate production issues, ergonomic concerns, fitment problems, quality defects, and field feedback related to interiors.
- Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective/preventive measures.
- Collect feedback from drivers and operators to drive continual design improvements.
- Support field evaluations, fleet trials, customer demos, and operational testing.
- Collaborate with Safety, Quality, Operations, Fleet, Maintenance, and Customer Experience teams to identify areas for enhancement.
- Explore emerging technologies such as advanced displays, augmented-reality interfaces, intelligent controls, connected interiors, AI-assisted systems, and autonomous-driving interfaces.
- Investigate sustainable materials, lightweight constructions, modular interiors, recycled content, and circular design approaches.
- Develop technology and design roadmaps for future driver interior platforms.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, resources, risks, technical dependencies, and milestones.
- Prepare executive presentations, technical documentation, risk assessments, design reviews, and recommendations.
- Promote design excellence, technical quality, human-centered design, and continuous improvement throughout interior developments.
