Role Overview

St. George’s University is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Driver within its Transportation Department. Drivers are responsible for safely operating university buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and other authorized individuals along predefined routes to facilitate campus commuting.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate university buses safely, adhering strictly to scheduled routes and timelines.
• Communicate proactively with passengers and supervisors regarding any delays or route issues.
• Conduct thorough daily inspections of assigned vehicles before use and submit completed inspection forms to the duty supervisor, reporting any needed maintenance or cleaning promptly.
• Ensure the proper display of route destination signs using LED and magnetic signage prior to trips.
• Wear the provided uniform in a neat and professional manner at all times.
• Adhere fully to local traffic laws and regulations enforced by the Royal Grenada Police Force.
• Report all accidents, traffic penalties, or fines from both on- and off-duty driving immediately to the Transportation Manager.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and tidiness consistently.
• Promptly report any mechanical or operational issues to management.
• Address passenger concerns by reporting incidents to supervisors, avoiding confrontations.
• Follow all health and safety protocols to ensure passenger and driver wellbeing.
• Report any suspected safety violations or colleagues under the influence of drugs or alcohol promptly.
• Perform additional duties assigned by transportation management as required.
• Engage positively with students, faculty, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Minimum of six years driving experience with a valid C1 driver’s license.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills for completing forms and documents related to operations.
• Willingness to learn local geography and optimize safe route planning.
• Proficient maneuvering of both large and small vehicles, especially in narrow or tight road conditions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude to manage minor vehicle issues.
• Visual acuity of 20/20, with or without corrective lenses.
• Ability and readiness to comply with random drug screenings.
• Capability to occasionally lift weights up to 50 pounds.
• Adaptability to dynamic work environments and situations.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Work will occur under varying conditions with exposure to engine and blower noise, passenger conversations, and alert buzzers.
• The driver must be prepared for shift work including night operations, as the university functions 24/7.
