Job description
Role Overview
As a Distinguished Enterprise Architect specializing in Flights at Priceline, you will shape and develop the architecture that supports the entire flight journey—from search and discovery to booking and beyond. Your focus will be on crafting solutions that are reliable, scalable, secure, and cost-efficient, enabling rapid innovations throughout the flight experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and refine the target-state architecture for Flights aligned with Priceline’s long-term goals, including a realistic phased roadmap and defined milestones.
- Design complex distributed systems covering flight search, pricing, availability, booking, and post-booking functionalities, ensuring reliability and scalability while balancing trade-offs.
- Collaborate with Product and Technology leaders to integrate internal platforms, airline systems, suppliers, and third-party technologies by defining integration architecture, APIs, ownership, and service levels.
- Promote best engineering practices in software design, APIs, DevOps/CI/CD, QA, SRE/observability, cloud, data, AI/ML, security, and experimentation to foster innovation and efficiency.
- Lead development of AI/ML capabilities such as personalized search ranking, generative booking assistance, pricing models, and anomaly detection, working closely with Data and Product teams.
- Work with business and architectural stakeholders to ensure scalable, reusable, and platform-aligned architectural patterns.
- Research emerging technologies and travel industry trends, overseeing build-buy-partner decisions, proofs of concept, and cost-benefit analyses to mitigate risks.
- Architect scalable solutions for flight supplier integrations, content management, pricing, availability, and distribution.
- Support data-driven product development by enabling architectural patterns for analytics, experimentation, A/B testing, feature flags, and AI/ML across the Flights platform.
- Govern architecture standards, manage technical debt, enforce compliance, and minimize risk.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers to elevate engineering and architectural standards while fostering a culture valuing clarity, simplicity, scalability, and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
- Strategic thinker and effective communicator capable of influencing executives, peers, and engineering teams.
- Over 12 years of experience in software engineering and architecture, with deep expertise in Growth/MarTech, cloud technologies, microservices, data pipelines, AI/ML including generative AI, and privacy-by-design principles.
- Strong hands-on software engineering skills with proficiency in API design (gRPC, REST, GraphQL), DevOps/CI/CD, QA, and SRE/observability practices.
- Experienced with Node.js and Java/Spring ecosystems.
- Cloud-native capabilities, particularly with Google Cloud Platform services like GKE and BigQuery.
- Familiarity with marketing technology platforms covering marketing analytics, headless CMS, CDPs, SEO/SEM, and Core Web Vitals.
- Advocate for clarity and simplicity to reduce complexity and improve team velocity.
- Analytical problem-solver who deconstructs ambiguity into actionable plans.
- Demonstrated alignment with Priceline’s core values: Customer focus, Innovation, Teamwork, Accountability, and Trust.
- Upholds the highest standards of integrity and ethics, consistent with Priceline’s motto, “The Right Results, the Right Way.”
