Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Dishwasher will ensure that all dishware and kitchen equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to maintain kitchen efficiency and meet health standards.

Responsibilities

• Collect dirty dishware, rinse off leftover food, and arrange items properly in dishracks to prepare for machine washing.
• Operate the automatic dishwashing machine by loading racks onto the conveyor belt and managing machine controls as per operational guidelines.
• Refill dishwashing solution dispensers and regulate detergent and chemical levels to maintain effective cleaning.
• Unload and inspect cleaned dishes, stacking them on designated carts and shelves for ready use by kitchen and restaurant staff.
• Manually clean pots, pans, and other utensils that cannot be machine washed using appropriate detergents and scouring tools, then dry and store them correctly.
• Polish silverware, stainless steel, and pewter to ensure service items are presentable for guests.
• Maintain dishwashing machinery by following manufacturer instructions to extend equipment life, prevent breakdowns, and comply with health regulations.
• Keep the dish room tidy by sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, wiping down surfaces, and organizing storage areas to meet sanitation standards.
• Clean kitchen floors at the end of shifts and perform scheduled cleaning of work surfaces, walls, ceilings, ventilation hoods, vents, and ovens.
• Collect and dispose of trash from kitchen zones into outside compactors.
• Keep loading dock and kitchen entrances free of debris for safety purposes.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• No formal education or prior experience required.
• Basic understanding of dishwashing procedures expected.

Physical Requirements

• Visual ability to see small objects at arm’s length and read machine controls.
• Capability to bend, squat, crouch, crawl, reach overhead, and retrieve items.
• Strength to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs, including trays, carts, tables, chairs, and equipment up to 75% of the work time.
• Ability to stand and move up to 300 feet regularly throughout the shift.
• Competence in following verbal and written instructions and communicating effectively.
• Multi-tasking skills and attention to detail in noisy, busy environments.
• Carefulness to minimize breakage by handling fragile items cautiously.

Work Environment

Work is mainly indoors (~95%) with prolonged walking, standing, lifting, and carrying. Frequent freezer access with temperatures down to -10°F is required.
