Overview

As the Director of Technology at Simple Machines UK, you will join the leadership team as a senior technology and people leader deeply rooted in software engineering. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the success and expansion of our existing enterprise clients, forging new partnerships, shaping innovative propositions and solutions, and spearheading substantial business growth within the UK and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage directly with complex software engineering programs, ensuring their successful delivery through hands-on leadership.
• Lead engineering initiatives that include modern software solutions, especially focusing on AI-native and agentic applications.
• Collaborate with engineers, technical leads, and architects to tackle challenging technical and delivery issues.
• Evaluate and influence architecture and engineering strategies, stepping in with senior technical leadership when required.
• Promote robust engineering practices, guaranteeing that emerging AI and agentic solutions meet enterprise-grade standards.
• Oversee the technical quality of deliverables, maintaining pride in the work produced.
• Shape software, solution, and enterprise architecture across large client engagements, balancing quality with practical delivery constraints.
• Provide technical assurance across projects while staying connected with engineering teams.
• Maintain technical expertise and credibility with senior engineers and architects.
• Support the growth and success of strategic enterprise accounts and develop trusted advisory relationships with senior client stakeholders.
• Advocate for ideas and approaches both with clients and internal teams, fostering alignment and collaboration.
• Collaborate across consulting, delivery, data, and AI sectors to develop integrated solutions and propositions.
• Lead advanced technological discussions and manage stakeholder expectations in high-level conversations.
• Initiate new client relationships and lead preliminary technology discussions.
• Transform client challenges into compelling proposals, architectural plans, and delivery approaches.
• Play an active role in shaping proposals, pitches, RFPs, and major pursuits, ensuring that offerings are credible, commercially attractive, and feasible.
• Coordinate with various teams within Simple Machines to marshal resources needed to secure and grow work.
• Lead, mentor, and grow the UK technology team, developing senior engineers, technical leads, principal engineers, and architects through hands-on client work.
• Establish high standards for engineering craftsmanship, architecture, and technical leadership.
• Assist in recruiting exceptional technical talent and promote a high-performance, collaborative engineering culture with humility.

Candidate Profile

• Over 15 years of experience in software engineering and technology, with significant hands-on experience progressing through software engineering, architecture, and technology leadership roles.
• Extensive background in technology consultancy, delivering complex solutions for enterprise clients.
• Demonstrated experience in pre-sales, including discovery, proposition and solution design, proposals, RFPs, tenders, and successful client pitches.
• Proven experience designing and implementing technology solutions in complex Tier 1 enterprises, particularly in sectors such as banking, trading, telecommunications, wagering, and insurance.
• Strong capabilities in software, solution, and enterprise architecture.
• Established senior-level client leadership and a record of developing engineers, technical leads, and architects.
