Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to lead the global YourCause engineering function at Blackbaud. This role involves building a strong leadership team for engineering, managing growth while ensuring reliability for enterprise clients, adopting AI to speed up delivery and raise quality, and upholding high standards for technical excellence and operational stability.

The Team

YourCause is Blackbaud's platform for corporate social responsibility and an essential part of the product lineup. The engineering teams follow a SAFe framework with monthly release trains. The role reports to the Senior Director of Engineering for YourCause and Financials & Grantmaking and collaborates closely with Product leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, guide, and motivate diverse, high-achieving engineering teams and leaders across application development, fostering an inclusive and growth-oriented workplace.
• Promote a culture of ongoing learning and innovation, utilizing AI to enhance delivery acceleration and quality improvements, encouraging experimentation with cutting-edge capabilities to improve product features and operational workflows.
• Define and implement the technical strategy in collaboration with Product Management, Enterprise Architecture, and other stakeholders to align technology roadmaps with business goals and adapt to industry trends.
• Drive predictable, high-quality product delivery by directing teams to plan effectively, anticipate risks early, and responsibly experiment, while maintaining clear accountability.
• Manage end-to-end delivery lifecycle including development, operations, security, reliability, and automation; serve as the escalation point during critical production incidents and customer engagements with clear root-cause communication.
• Foster a data-informed culture where metrics drive decision-making and strategic improvements.
• Collaborate with Security, Compliance, and Payments teams to fulfill control requirements linked to large-scale nonprofit money transfers and handling of employee data, including payment controls, nonprofit vetting, sanctions screening, SOC compliance, and data privacy.
• Act as the engineering representative to key enterprise customers concerning integrations, data services, and service commitments alongside Product and Customer Success teams.
• Contribute hands-on leadership to shape and scale the India engineering site, establishing its culture, talent acquisition, and operational cadence for future growth.

Candidate Profile

• Possess over 15 years of relevant professional experience with at least 10 years in engineering leadership managing managers.
• Demonstrate 7 or more years delivering SaaS solutions at scale, proficient in end-to-end delivery that meets customer and operational SLA expectations.
• Experience managing large, globally dispersed engineering groups, including leadership over 40+ engineers and architects.
• Strong communication skills to convey technical vision clearly and influence strategic initiatives across different organizational levels.
• Experienced with AI-driven development tools and approaches, with a proven record of leading AI adoption in engineering workflows.
• Familiar with SAFe or similar agile frameworks for managing engineering work.
• Background in building enterprise-grade B2B SaaS products, especially with enterprise integrations such as single sign-on, HRIS, payroll systems, multi-tenant scaling, and handling seasonal volume spikes; payment or money movement system experience is advantageous.
• Preference for candidates with experience in corporate social responsibility, nonprofit domains, or mission-driven organizations.
• Willingness to work flexible hours to meet business needs.
